sgwilks 11-20-2001, 08:26 AM I wish to register a domain name but i dont want my postal address and name to be found on networksolutions/whois database, how can i do this other than giving false information or leaving details blank.
Regards Steve.
cperciva 11-20-2001, 08:35 AM Let me get this straight.
You don't want to give accurate information.
You don't want to give inaccurate information.
You don't want to leave the fields blank.
I'd say you have a problem there.

Just write fake address. Easy.
monkey junkie 11-20-2001, 09:50 AM they let you enter whatever details you want
Domenico 11-20-2001, 10:13 AM Who doesn't ;-)
At bulkregister.com you can use Mickey Mouse and Disneyland for address.
btw. don't think it's that anonymous! For normal people yes, but if they want to get you for something they just have to fax them or they have realtime database access offcourse...
The Prohacker 11-20-2001, 12:50 PM You can certainly put fake info into the feild, but if you have a domain dispute you better prove your Mickey Mouse, if you can't, you don't get your domain back.....
Lurleene 11-20-2001, 01:52 PM The only thing you can do that would fit all your criteria and still have you legally own the name is to get a P.O. box and a voicemail box.
Kind of costly to remain anonymous without giving your domain away.

Hmm, but I meant when YOU are the guy that registers and have 100% control of whatever you fill in. You can change it within minutes. You can write a script that automaticly changes it every day so you can use your whole Disney family.
Oh, I'm not Mickey Mouse, he's my cousin...

sgwilks 11-21-2001, 06:49 AM I emailed a domain registrar in the UK and they replied "If you go to www.opensrs.com and search for a domain name, it does show all
details, this is not under our control. If you register a .co.uk then this
only shows your name or company name."
I am not doind anything dodgy,i just dont like my personal details on the web.

With all the companies leeching whois data, the more anonymous the better. Legal or not, I don't see anything wrong with that.
I'm recieving mail everyday from Register.com, Verisign, Interland and many others for hosting, domain registration, etc. Lately, this whole .biz thing has brought in a new flood of junk mail.
bitserve 11-21-2001, 12:14 PM We avoid junk email by using a contact email address that only the registrars can send email to (controlled with a firewall).
Junk snail mail isn't as bad as one might expect.
