I am trying to re-install courier-imap and courier-pop but I cannot because I do not have config files for them (I deleted /etc/courier after removing them before) how can I get these files while still installing via .debs and why doesn't it just re-write them? The directory does exsist.

Try dpkg-reconfigure

Or if that does not work, purge the package and reinstall.

funny, my dpkg -L courier-imap shows that it comes with /etc/courier/imapd

I can't purge the package because it won't let me re-install or remove it - its half way. I ended up fixing my issues by getting a friend to install it and then send me the default config and then he purged it to get rid of it.
