I'm thinking about hosting a board for a friend that has about 10 concurrent users at a time. Is that going to be a resource hog?
What if it moves to 20 at a time?
I have about 25 other sites on the RaQ. Those sites have light usage of SSI, PHP, and cgi scripting. Maybe 1500 uniques a day between them. I only have 128 megs of RAM.
Any thoughts, suggestions or experiences?
Thanks in advance.
Hi i just set it up on my RaQ3 it looks good

No problem, works perfect. However, Vbulletin is better... but you'l have to pay for that.

So, does phpbb have a scalability problem?
I'm not sure what you mean by "works better."
I'll come up with $85 for a year if it will keep me from having problems down the road.
If phpbb will easily convert to vBulletin in case of problems, I'll probably start with phpbb. If not, I'll up the $$. (vBulletin is a good deal, anyway.)
I appreciate any suggestions.

the board should work fine. however, you may want to consider upgrading to at least 256mb ram.
RAQs love RAM.

phpBB won't have any trouble handleing 25 users on your RaQ, it should handle 225 just fine :)
The biggest bottle neck in the system will be MySQL. If you've got a really high traffic forum you're going to want to tweak MySQL. vBulletin will crash just as hard on a badly configured MySQL as phpBB will...

You won't have any problems with phpBB on a RaQ. Here is the most recient one I've helped setup: http://www.weweresoldiersfilm.com. It's running a very early beta of phpBB 2.0 with no major problems.

Yes I am running it at
http://www.aspcode.net/forum with around 4000 posts.
But also testing out Burning Board ( the one ljprevo mentions ) and must say I like that one better, although I have no idea how it works performance wise.
