How important is it to have ASP support? I am considering ChiliSoft ASP but at $500 I am wondering if the cost would justify itself.

I am considering ChiliSoft ASP but at $500 I am wondering if the cost would justify itself. ASPCode.net 11-19-2001, 03:06 PM To me ASP on a Linux machine seems a little wrong. I also tend to believe that people looking for ASP hosting probably will need other Windows related stuff, such as Access and/or MSSQL. Yes, it is possible to have a Windows machine as well and your Linux machine could then remote connect to these services, but still... I would rather offer ASP hosting on Windows machines. netsolutions 11-19-2001, 03:18 PM That is what I was thinking. ASP was developed as a PHP for Windows and now they want to have ASP for Linux. ASP I thought should stay on Windows machines I just wanted to see if anyone had alternate thoughts. ASPCode.net 11-19-2001, 03:25 PM but the really interesting question is actually what the customers think. Although I feel better offering services I feel comfortable myself, but if the customers want pasta with their hamburgers instead of pommes frites then hey, it's a business and as a businessman one needs to adapt to the real world. So, all of you offering ASP on Linux machines: is it common and do people really use it? Haze 11-19-2001, 10:16 PM We haven't had a single person use ASP on our servers. I think its rather pointless myself when you have php. akashik 11-21-2001, 03:25 AM We've had around half a dozen requests in 12 months :) Of those two of them are hosted with us anyway, and use Perl or PHP instead. *shrug* We've thought about farming out ASP to a windows machine, or just using an account with handyhosting to host them, but as yet there just isn't the demand for it.
