View Full Version : Having all those Logos on your website..
Yaser 04-29-2004, 05:57 AM Many hosts have at the end of their website logos of RedHat Linux, Windows, Apache, PHP MY SQL, CPANEL, ENSIM and what not.
Does that really have any effect on clients or visitors? Having all those logos on the end of the website pages and then mentioning them...
Pls share your opinions. Thanks
whatever 04-29-2004, 06:16 AM Personally, seeing these logos helps assure me that they have these features. I like being able to scroll down and look and say to myself "oh, they have cpanel" or "they use php 4.1" for example.
tazd9t9 04-29-2004, 06:16 AM Well for one they show customers what you support. But i think they can sometimes help with the ranking on search engines etc if you link to the actual sites and not just stick the logos on there.
Its also an easy way for customers to get more information on that feature if they can link to the main website about them.
hostjet 04-29-2004, 06:22 AM Actually, it is probably a better idea to display the logos without actually linking to the sites, as that will probably just leak the pagerank of the main page.
In the absence of other logos and images, I think they can add a bit of a professional look to a site.
Yaser 04-29-2004, 06:23 AM So its not bad afterall, right? Doesnt reduce your professionalism, right?
thanks

I'm sure ive read on the PHP site and others though that you cannot display their logo without linking back to their site.
Not that people pay much attention to things like that.
Yaser 04-29-2004, 07:17 AM quote 'I'm sure ive read on the PHP site and others though that you cannot display their logo without linking back to their site.'
Ive come across that as well. Its necessary to link to them
Kustud 04-29-2004, 11:17 AM Just a question, where can you find all these logos for use on a site? i.e the Cpanel, Apache, Mysql etc?
H-U.net 04-29-2004, 11:31 AM www.cpanel.net
www.apache.org
www.mysql.com
;)

Yaser 04-29-2004, 11:37 AM Kevin just told you, but if you still want letme know your email ill send you cc images, pay pal and lots more that ive been collecting :)
peersignal 04-29-2004, 11:55 AM Yes, it's useful to have them there. It saves on questions being asked, and also gives the potential customer an idea of what services their site employs on their servers.

Waylon
iTec Hosts 04-29-2004, 07:02 PM Another place to get the images is Google Image Search. Just ensure you are permitted to download the image before you do so.
As well most developers have stock graphics available for people to use on their websites.
iblive 04-29-2004, 07:10 PM As a business: I think it does help make the association of the product. The problem is that some customers may think that you have some sort of affiliation or partnership with them when really all you do is use their product.
As a user: I like to see the logos of products that I am interested in. It definitely helps catch my eye when i only look at a page for 8 seconds before moving on.
DoMeric 04-30-2004, 03:12 AM I read a while back that RedHat is rather a stickler about using their image on a site.
Yaser 04-30-2004, 05:51 AM I dunt know about that, but its in RedHat's benefit only, more people get to know them :D
DoMeric 04-30-2004, 12:20 PM From RedHat's site:
Trademarks
The trademarks, logos and service marks ("Marks") displayed on this website are the property of Red Hat or other third parties. You are not permitted to use these Marks without the prior written consent of Red Hat or such third party which may own the Mark. Please see the Red Hat Trademark Guidelines and Policies at http://www.redhat.com/about/corporate/trademark/ and the Fedora Trademark Guidelines and Policies at http://fedora.redhat.com/about/trademarks/.
DoMeric 04-30-2004, 12:26 PM Also for using Windows icons you have to have an MCSE on staff (or something like that).
Yaser 04-30-2004, 12:30 PM Ohk thanks alot DoMeric, appreciate it.
JustinH 04-30-2004, 01:11 PM Depends on your market... I could throw any logo on my site, and my target market would have NO idea what they are or their purpose. If your targeting people "in the know" it's not a bad thing.

It allows the clients to know what software you are using.
So, yes, I agree it does attract more people to say "wow, they have all these features"
but over 10 is to many
Foladar 05-01-2004, 11:31 PM Which ones are able to link onto your website without legal troubles? I was planning on doing this but I saw all those copyrights on each websites...
Yaser 05-02-2004, 12:23 AM I think perl, cgi, apache. the rest you will need to double check

Just so you know you CANNOT use the visa/mc/amex/discover logos on your page unless you have a merchant account. If you are using Paypal, 2Checkout, Paysystems, etc you CAN use the logos that they provide that display their logo along with the card logos, but you cannot simply use the standalone card logos.
