Hello,
What should every ROOT know BEFORE they let their CUSTOMERS access through SSH!
How do you keep your BOX updated with the new security patches?
Where do you download your necessary programs (ex: pine)?
What kind of program/way do you use to control quotas and # of processes your clients can use?
How do you group your clients?
I'd really love to know how others do all the basics....?
First of all before i can offer help.. what Operating System are you using?
Edit: DOH! should read the topic.
Are you going to be using a control panel of any kind on this server? Webmin? or other? There are tools out there that will help you in doing what you want. But really, what you need is a system admin to help guide you through the basics. Thats really beyond anything you'd get on a forum. Pick up a few books, research topics on google. But one thing, don't EVER think about putting clients on a server thats not properly secured.

Better hurry up and get it! You never know when someone will be pining for that!

Greetings:

Wow, before we fathom whether or not ROOT has a soul (just kidding), does ROOT even talk on its own? ;-)
Thank you.
Sorry, I could not resist.

Do you NEED to give your customers SSH access? I wonder NEVER do that.

some people require ssh. i, being webmaster, would have never signed up with a shared host with no ssh. so most shared hosts (besides few who serve resellers) provide jailed ssh on request.

Greetings:
There is a difference between desire and need (require).
Thank you.

Well, you have to understand that there is a first to everything.
I'd appreciate if most people knew how to help rather than criticize the topic.
Helping others doesn’t make you an idiot, but criticizing others sure does make you dim.
