This is weird.
I just built and powered up a 1u server for the first time.

The first thing it does is boot up.
This is the screen
----------------------------------------------------
SUPERMICRO
www.supermicro.com

Loading Bar ....

Press DEL to run setup
Press TAB to display BIOS POST message
---------------------------------------------

The Loading Bar stops at 83%. I waited 15 min, but it still stayed at 83%.

I tried to press DEL, TAB, and all possible keys on the keyboard, but no luck.

I rebooted the server several times. Sometime it stops at 57 and sometime it stops at 83.

Any clue?

This time I pressed TAB immediately right after I powered up.

The "31744KB OK" was counting up.
When it got to "31744KB OK", stopped.
I believe it should count up more.

Once it got to "31744KB OK", the screen...

The above is non english characters. They are not "ftgj"
"ghjhlkl;;;;". There are non language characters I think.

Is there any A+ certified people in here know how to solve this problem?

how much memory did you put? Seems like it's a bad memory problem? Have you tried to use with different memory modules?

dektong.

Are you sure it is the memory?

I have two sticks of 256MB RAM.

Let me test each stick.

I sticked these RAM in my pc, and they worked fine.
I even took the pc ram and put it in the server, same thing.

I don't think it is because of the RAM.

nice try thou.

I think I know what was the problem.

My low profile fan for 1u is too weak.
I had to replace it with a big fan for it to work.

Now, my new problem is the big fan is too big for a 1u server.

Any suggestion?

SO, if you replace the fan, everthing is OK?

if so ... what 1U fan do you use? Also, you can always use thermal paste. And also, you can buy a blower that you put on your PCI slot (not actually connected to the motherboard, just take a PCI slot).

Everything is ok after the fan is replaced.

About the blower, I already have that.

Before it is fully boot up, the processor is already hot.
It gets hot really fast.

I guess I have to shop around tommorrow to find a stonger low profile fan to fit the 1u.

I might want to try thermal paste.

You should try it sometime. Take out the cooling fan and startup your pc. It will boot half way and freeze on you.

Sounds like your BIOS has an alarm that won't let it start up unless the CPU FAN is at a certain RPM.

I had that problem before. Generally you can disable the alarm in the BIOS, but of course you may not be able to get to the BIOS. All mine was doing was beeping and then powering itself back off.

The solution, which you found is to just replace it with a fan. I doubt that the size matters, you might be able to find a small form factor fan with a seonsor that spins faster.

I put "thermal paste" on the small fan, and it worked great.

Anyone familiar with Spermicro 370SSE's BIOS.

I got this screen right after boot up.

================
Reboot and Select proper Boot Device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device.
================

I went into the BIOS and played around with "boot" tab area, but I couldn't get it to pass the above screen part. If you see the above screen, can you save me time by letting me know?
