I never asked to get such an email, or submitted my email anywhere. never even heard of them before.
whats more, look at the first line:Greetings websterworld,
they know me from a one of the [few] forums I post in. did somebody sell my email or something?
anybody else got that email? whats going on?
Eugene
EDIT: they seem to be banned here. (notice the "*" in the title)
yah I got the email.. though I registered with them awhile ago, from a pm I got
either way, I got there because of spam :x
bcmorgue 04-28-2004, 12:49 PM I know that some forums have a "mass e-mail" option available, where you can send out numerous e-mails to everybody subscribed to the forums, with just one click.
I have PHPBB forums, and I know have this option. I've done it once, but it was for something reguarding users accounts on the forums, not spam junk mail.
websterworld 04-28-2004, 01:05 PM From: webmaster@***********.com
the mass email option is a feat' of most forums. but this isnt the case here at least.
how did they get my email? how?
Tswaibel 04-28-2004, 01:06 PM I recieved the same email as well....
they probably bought the list from the anti-spam company (what a better scam to piss off people, than to subscribe them to an anti-anti spam mailing list, only stating it's an anti spam list! :pimp: )

Have you listed your email address in any posts? If so, they probably grabbed it from there. Couple that with the fact they referred to you as "websterworld" and I have a feeling that is exactly how they got it.
I have stopped listing an email address in posts on every forum I visit due to this sort of activity. I just ask them to use the email button so that it get's routed to me without them getting the actual address.

Matt thats a smart thing to do, and I tend to avoid posting my email. I have no clue really how they got it. the site seems to be banned here, I use "websterworld" on all of the few forums I visit, but I dont recall posting my email anywhere. grrr.
I'm just scared of getting spammed now, its only one email so far, sure, but what if they start sending me viagra ads or something? :bawling:
I just hope its that first and last time I will ever hear from them.
I really dont like me email making the rounds like that.
Eugene

me:
Alright, i'll be waiting.
By the way, why is your website censored at webhostingtalk.com ?
them:
WebHostingTalk.com likes to censor sites that compete with it. We were one of the first ones they targeted.
Thanks,

me:
Then why aren't hosthideout.com, or hostingdiscussion.com censored?
i wonder if they'll respond.
Jeffreyw 02-22-2005, 08:40 PM Browse Host.com started a logo design contest over at Yaxay (plus other sites) 2 or 3 years ago. There were already over a hundred logo submissions, not counting the other forums where he also held the same contest. It went on for many weeks. The members started to complain, the moderators urged him to chose a winner. The Browse Host owner (?) still had not chosen a single winner.

It has been a long-standing policy that the moderators of WHT not discuss the details about an issue. Unfortunately for Pinny, I am no longer a moderator of this site, and I keep detailed records. I was the one who dealt with this issue and I can assure you that the above statement is completely untrue.
The URL was blocked due to Pinny posting the URL on the forum in places where it wasn't permitted (9/25/2002). Despite multiple warnings, this continued and even when the URL was blocked, Pinny contiunued to post the URL with spaces in an attempt to defeat the censors. As an added bonus, Pinny then copped an attitude, which ensured a slow removal of the block (10/26/2002).
Normally I still wouldn't discuss these things, however I'll gladly correct or clarify things :D
Odd Fact 02-23-2005, 03:33 PM A reminder that if any WHT members feel they have recieved SPAM via other WHT members please contact the Community Leaders.
