just wondering,

lets say you have a dedicated server running the latest stable
cpanel/whm.

what is the highest uptime you experienced ?
dont include the network uptime, just the server/software uptime.

because im wondering if i have less than 100 clients
that host only small traffic forums (total clients bw 15gb/month ) and get a dedicated server i might be able to get 100% server/software uptime.

how many times have you experience in a year using cpanel/whm running 100% server/software uptime in a month?


note:
server/software uptime includes servers OS and server apps like cpanel and whm, ftp, email (network connection to dc not included).

We've had plenty of servers that have gone over 30 straight days without a reboot, this isn't to say that indiviual services weren't patched, or upgraded.

Also, typically they don't go too much longer than 30 days since you will need to stay up to date with kernel upgrades.

We had a server up 129 days before rebooting. But with all the kernel updates here of late we are luckey to get 30 before we have to reboot for a new kernel.
But that has nothing to do with cpanel, that is Linux.

We love Cpanel/WHM; it's not perfect, but certainly something that we are working with CP to improve upon.

As for the reboot, we've seen servers go for a long while without a reboot. The question is, do you want servers that have gone that long? We usually interupt the uptime for security patches that require reboots (like a kernel update, etc..).

We're in the same boat as Techark...hadn't had a server down in 45 days (last kernel upgrade) and then had to do yet another kernel upgrade. Currently sitting around a week right now ;)

We have one now with 56 days of uptime, kernel upgrade due reallll soon now. :D

159 days uptime, FreeBSD :)

lets not considered reboot due to kernel upgrade and security patches.

as long as the load is very minimal and below the normal loads?

What causes it to halt? Bad server administration, bad coding/scripts that users run, etc...

Like anything, if you let it sit too long it starts to wear down. Think of it like a car...consistent maintenance, scheduled oil changes, and a little TLC make it go a long way :D

In many cases almost perfect uptime, realistically (99.9) is not very difficult to achieve even with CPANEL / WHM. When including time taken to upgrade kernels and reboot, it should not take in excess of about 4 minutes.

In conclusion, the majority of services (mail,ftp,apache) do not crash often but in many cases they are restarted by means of scripts installed on the server. CPanel for me has only crashed once this month for about ~12 odd seconds from what I can see.

with this crash, did you have it fix manually?

is it difficult to fix cpanel?

Unless that is a FreeBSD server you might want to consider upgrading that kernel pretty fast.
