Hi Everyone. I want your suggestions.

I need a webhost for my new site. I have been with two different webhosts in the past. Neither of them were bad in my opinion.
nethollywood.net and addr.com

I am still with ADDR.com and they are pretty good. But I don't think they will be a good choice for my next site.

My next site is media oriented. I will be using an Ikonboard 3.0 messageboard and have quicktime and windows media video files that could in some cases be up to 80MBs or more in size.

I need a webhost with a good reputation. Someone that will give me over 200MB in space, at leat 10GB's in transfer (hopefully more like 20) and a fast connection. I also want some place that isn't going to delete my messageboard because it uses to many resources. It probably won't have a lot of users as it is.

I have looked into tera-byte and hostrocket so far. tera-byte seems to have a good reputation but they only go up to 200MB in shared hosting plans. Hostrocket I have read some bad things about here so I'm not sure about them even though they sound perfect.

I don't want to pay more then $20 a month. Ideally I'd like to pay around $10. My site doesn't make money and I do already pay for my other website as it is. And I need it to be able to use my ScapeFilms.com address I already have registered.

Any suggestions? thanks

An important part of your search is, is your ikon board going to be flatfile or php/mysql?

Also, I've noticed, many people who signup with tera-byte find them very good and stay there, but people who signup with hostrocket (for some reason) almost always end up switching to aletia.

Thanks. I actually got inpatient and just went with tera-byte. I figured the 20GB a month transfer was better to have then more storage space. Plus I can always upgrade to a virtual server for $69 a month if I really want to expand. It is unfortunate they don't have a 300 or 400MB shared hosting plan though. Tha would have solved everything.

I would like my Ikonboard to be MySQL but I won't have alot of users to flatfile won't be bad either. Then again I'm also debating if I should just run Ikonboard 2.0 instead of three.

I have an Ikonboard 3.0 running on my host at ADDR.com and it is pretty quick. At least for me, but I have a cable modem.

I would still like more suggestions though. I am thinking of setting up a third site similar to this one.

BTW hos long does it usually take to get your site set up with tera-byte.com?

thanks

Good choice.

I've never used tera-byte's hosting, only redirection and domain registration, so I don't know how long until your account is setup. I would guess a couple of hours though.

You should really use the database driven (mysql) version. Flatfile boards usually get deleted by hosts, as they use up to many resources.

I'm hosted on aletia and I have no complaints. I always recomend aletia.com and eternias.com for shared hosting needs.

Thanks for your help. I have a couple questions though.

1. Do you have to do anything special to use MySQL?

For instance if I install IB3.0 RC1 it asks during the setup if you want flatfile or MySQL. Is that all I have to do to use MySQL is choose MySQL there or is there something I have to do on the server side?

I don't know anything about MySQL and barely got my last board(flatfile) installed so I don't want this MySQL thing to go way over my head. I'm very new at all this.

2. If I do decide to upgrade to a virtual server at $69(tera-byte.com) a month can I have multiple domain names and websites on it?
I don't really know how virtual servers work so if anyone can give me an idea then that would be great. I'd like to host more short films so the space and badwidth would be great with a virtual server. But I would like to bring all my sites(as well as a few of my friends) together under the same server if possible. All of them have .com's.

Thanks

I've never installed an ikonboard before, but I assume they have some sort of installation manual like most others. This is what you should follow.

For questions reguarding tera-byte, you should talk to steve.

I would go with the mysql message board, a flat file message board can be very demanding on the server.
