Just out of curiousity, what technology does this use? VMWare? Linux Virtual Machines?

Thanks,
Dan

Somewhat interested here myself, how many "partitions" do you put on each 1.4Ghz machine?

This would be nice for backup DNS or low priority MX servers. Could even host a few websites on it.

7 days? Cool, hook me up. My application is being set now... :)

CagedTornado: Basic partitions uses as system that is almost equivalent to a BSD jail() (Chroot+Kernel.Cap.Lockdown(not FreeVSD)). Advanced partitions runs Linux within Linux and works like a S/390, but of course not as powerful :). Both are very secure, short of virtualizing the CPU (like VMWare) which is slow.

Dixiesys: Production servers have 16 partitions (Basic) ready and preconfigured. One is reserved for internal use, so we have around 15 users or less to a server. During testing we were running up to 64 simultaneous partitions, all full server installs of RH7.2 with apache, sendmail, wu-ftpd and ssh running concurrently.

Is there any restriction on hosting domains. How many domains can we host on it? How much resources are you giving to each server like RAM and CPU. Please let us know.

Allright I'll give it a whirl as a backup MX/DNS and we'll see how it goes.

Don't suppose your account reps are wroking at 2AM CST? :)

What is the URL for the software you are using?

Jolly: There are no restrictions on how many domains are hosted, as long as you only use one IP on the VDS Basic. All our servers have a 1.4ghz CPU (minimum) and at least 1.5 Gb of ram. If you want to get a sense of how the server performs, I suggest you sign up for the free trial :)

Dixiesys: Just a note. BIND9 does not work under VDS Basic as it requires the capset() system call which has been locked down. We suggest the use of BIND8 or djbdns. If you want to use BIND, get the RH7.0 updated BIND8 rpms from ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/linux/updates/en/os/i386/. We are working on BIND9 rpms compiled without capset().

The correct URL to the BIND8 RPMS is - ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/7.0/en/os/i386/

I still use Bind 8.

God I haven't even had a chance to log in and poke around yet (you can read about why here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=26626&goto=newpost )

Hopefully I can get this baby setup tonight :bawling:

update/edit:

HAHA my problem was just fixed so I just logged on to it!

RH7.2? Fixing to upload both cd's of RPM files :) there goes 1 gig of my bandwidth.

Dixiesys: We have the 7.2 RPMS online. We'll send you the address to connect to through email. This is a convenience since local traffic is free. We only charge for remote traffic.
