Anyone any experience with namezero.com?

I have a domain registred for free with namezero.com. Not a smart move, i guess, because i want to own the domain name. Has anyone buyed the domain name from them? Or waited till it expired, and then buyed it?

I registered a domain through them awhile back which I thought no one in their right mind would want just to test them out. Well I forgot this was the internet and soon got someone contacting me wanting to buy it from me. I gave him the info to log in and change whatever he wanted and then told him he'd have to deal with "them" to get it registered to him and put in his name... (no, I didn't get any money off it because the test was done and I had no use for it)

Well after awhile he e-mailed me back basically saying it was a royal pain. If you're absolutley die-hard about the domain, go for it, otherwise find something else.

When the year is up you have to buy it. Their price is much higher than many of the other registrars (directNIC, godaddy, etc).

They're quite sneaky. At the end of the year, your domain doesn't expire - they buy it for another year, and then spam you till you buy it from them. They start out trying to sell it for $35. The last offer I received was for $5 :-). I don't need it, so I'll just let them eat it.

If you really need the domain, you'll have no choice but to buy it from them. You can wait for a better price, if you're willing to take a chance that no one else will buy it from them.

The [paid] service is good, and they offer useful features. But is it worth it? Hard to tell. Why pay $35 for a domain when you can get it for $15 - or even $8??

Don't even consider Namezero. As Abu Mami has said, after a year, they take your domain name hostage, and demand money for it. With all the affordable registrars out there at the moment, you'd have to be insane to use Namezero.

if i understand it well, if i want the domain name i have to buy it from them, only thing i can do is wait until they drop there price, but i don't want to wait any longer (i already have the domain for free for almost a year, it isn't used yet though)

do i understand it well that if i pay them the money they ask i own the domain completely and i can move freely to another host and use something like mydomain.com??

I believe you will have to wait 60 days after you renew to move to another registrar.

There have been a good number of members at Freewebspace.net ("http://www.freewebspace.net/forums) who have dealt with this issue. I'd suggest you go there, search for 'namezero' in the domain names forum there, and contact some of the people directly, or post, and ask them what their suggestions are. It seems like they have been slow in the past, even after people have paid, and overall a bit ugly, but if you really want it, you'll be able to get it eventually.

I actually registered a domain name through namezero.com a long long time ago. When that domain name expired they asked me if I would like to buy it for $19.95. At that time, I said no, but namezero keeps bugging you. So sometimes, they would email me offers of registering the domain for only $9.95/year, but I still wasn't interested. But they never stop bugging you. So one time they emailed me and asked if I would like to register the domain for the low low price of $4.95, and I couldn't resist so I renewed it. But now I would like to transfer it out of namezero and go to a more reliable registrar. I think namezero charges you a fee for transferring out. So you might want to check how much the fee is.

We registered our .cc with them.. They are really a pain to deal with, but once you get what you want from them you just kind of leave them alone. They have the cheapest price for .cc's but if we would have known that they were so difficult to deal with we would have paid more money and used someone like nsi etc.

Namezero wouldn't let you have the full control of your domain, so you have to transfer it to another registar.

They don't charge you to transfer out (they used to, I guess). But you have to sign up as their plus member (which is cost around $30).

Never ever go with nz. I registered a domain name for free a LOOONG time ago and they still bug me with offers

NZ is a miserable excuse for a name registrar, they spam everyone with their stupid offers. Play it safe go with someone like gd or directnic.

If you have name zero for your domain name your yearly renew is $35.00 There service sucks i wont go into detail, but do this at least 30 days before your domain expires go to another registar i use tucows, just contact a new register explain to them they will set it up give you some stuff to contact name zero with and then send your happy little info off to name zero and you are transferred out for free. =)

I was looking up transfering your domain to another registrar. Here is what it says in the nz FAQ:

Q: If I decide to transfer my domain, what do I need to do?
A: Because Namezero offers such a wide range of services, most Namezero members will never consider transferring their domain name to another registrar. However, Namezero understands that some members may have reasons for wanting to change registrars at some juncture, and we are happy to assist you with your transfer. To transfer registrars, you must be a Plus member. This means that if you are currently a member of the free service, you will need to upgrade online.

Upgrading your domain can be done from the Namezero control panel at any time. In the process of upgrading your domain, you must also update the "whois" record found on the "offers" page in the control panel to list yourself as the administrative contact for the domain name. Once you are listed as the administrative contact, you can make an electronic request from your new domain host and they will e-mail you to authorize the transfer of registrars.

Please Note: If the domain name has been registered less than 60 days, there is a sixty day waiting period during which the original registrar is unable to perform any transfers of the domain name. Namezero follows this procedure to protect your domain name(s). We cannot authorize any online transfers sent directly to
us by other domain hosts.

If you need additional assistance or information, please see the Namezero help section, mail the Plus Support Team using the dedicated form in the Help section, or call the Plus Support telephone line. The number is found in the control panel of your Plus domain.

Hope this helps anyone wondering. I plan to transfer out soon :)
