The cheapest PIII server is about $200 per month. wouldnt be better to get 2 raq4 for same price?
Is there an easy way to share the resources of 2 raqs?

All things considered, yes I'd rather have 2 RaQ 4's as one beefier P3.

If an errant process hobbles the server it'll down it whether it's 800 or 400mhz, at least with 2 servers one of them ain't crashing!

Anytime I can split users into smaller groups (for the same price) the better. If I could put 1 client per machine that'd be just fine, that way when client A does something ignorant, stupid, harmful then client B won't suffer. That way if a single harddrive fails less clients are affected (there's a vice versa to this that says "the more harddrives the more likely you'll have a failure" to keep in mind too I guess).

If I were hosting a big hitter web site, then the more beef on a single machine the better of course, but for multiple smaller sites, 2XRaqs is my choice.

i would imagine you could use 1 raq to be a database / dns box, and the other to do your hosting(?????).

you could as well do backup swaps to each other.

or, you could use one raq4 to host your high-demand customer(more bandwidth / resources / etc), and use your other raq to host the smaller domains.

I would also go with two machines vs. one.

This way you can fine tune each box. For example, you can put a database on one and the web server on the other. Also, this gives you remote logging for security purposes, easy backup by swapping the contents. If you have a site with a lot of graphics, you can put them on one box and run a minimal web server like thttpd -- it can pump out images like mad. Also, DNS can be split between the two boxes -- more redundancy.

Yes I agree two smaller boxes are generally better then one bigger, however RAQ:s are somewhat special ( you are stuck with the builtin Control Panel etc ) so if you think there will be a day when you need regular P3:s as well you must take into consideration of having to offer your clients two different sets of Control Panels ( along with support of them etc )
