Hi,

Anyone can explain about what is one-U, half-U and Rack. I guess this is something regarding the size of the server?

Thanks in advance :D

Kindest regards,
Choon
P.S. Mod, feel free to move this post if I post in the wrong forum. Thanks.

It tells you the height of the rackmount server ... Each Unit (U) is about 1.75 inches tall ... So, a standard 1U rackmount would be 1.75"(H) x 19" (W) x 26" (D), for example ...

2U rackmount would be 3.5" tall ...

In general there is no 1/2 U rackmount (do you mean 1/2 Rack?) in the sense the height is only 0.875" ... But there are 1/2U servers where 2 independent srevers are being put next to each other on a 1U space ... See here (http://www.aproimage.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=223)

A Rack can be different in its height ... Some racks are 34U tall and others (more common) is 42U tall ... So 1/4 rack can be jus 8U or 10-11U ...

Hope this helps ...
