A few things on my mind right now, except for an upcoming law exam tomorrow. Those are the things that can benefit and better WHT get-together events.

1. Thinking of organizing another WHT get-together event in Montreal or Toronto at the end of summer 2004. I don't mind driving to the big city (taking a couple of people with me to split the gas costs), but Montreal is gorgeous at that time and not to be missed.

2. Organizing (bi)-weekly WHT phone chatting events using Skype.com VOIP technology. Skype.com offers free (unlimited :D ) calling wherever and whenever. Conference option allows for a maximum of 4 people talking at the same time. More than 4 people would be a mess either way.

The program promises better than cell-phone quality experience if you're on dial-up and better than regular phone quality for broadband users.

Better yet, who is up to creating a listing of WHT members who use or would like to use Skype.com to stay in touch with each other outside of WHT for faster communications on different matters?

I have just installed the program. Would anyone be interested in testing it with me? If you have Skype or if you decide to register for it, PM me your username so I can add you to the list.

Any comments on either of those ideas?

Btw, iNET team is welcome to attend the event.

Best,

akashik

From their website:

No Thanks.

It's still in Beta and has no ads etc. I have it, just can't remember my username (I'll create a new one and PM you via WHT)

Could be cool; we got 5 or so people on using http://freeconference.com for whtradio, but you have to pay for long distance.

There's lots of 'voice chat' programs, many are used for gaming clans because its easier to communicate by talking then stopping play to type. A couple I've used, quality can be very good if tweaked. All free (last time I checked) and there isn't a set limit for the max amount of people in the server.
http://rogerwilco.gamespy.com/
http://www.teamspeak.org (probably my favorite)
http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php (up and coming one)

I've setup servers for all of these before, hardly use any resources; just bandwidth.

akashik, your comment is very unclear to me. How does Kazaa has anything to do with Skype business other than just giving them publicity? I do not think you are well aware of Skype's inside story.

Rewdog, you actually just made a great suggestion. Since the chat/sound quality if much better with Skype, we could use it to mass-poll the audience for your radio show. People can call in, leave their comments that will later on get in the show.

Skype will soon introduce

If you were to record those files and send them to me, I have experience (radio editing) and software to create those brief specials.

I heard of it, but I'm not aware whether that went anywhere.

I know we, Canadians, been more active in this regard. Already 2 successful events in our pocket: Montreal and Toronto. Vito has been a huge influence in this matter.

I would very much be up to this, I am from London Ontario so it wouldn't be bad of an idea!

Well, that's easy. I'm sure Vito is going to be there as well. I have also 2 confirmations from Montreal already.

How's about everyone hops over to 'Sunny' Nova Scotia? :D

Halifax is an awesome city, and I could wrangle a conference room at one of the Hotels, no problem.

Halifax has some great places to eat too, in the center, and out in Dartmouth (10-15 mins away).

As previously said to Vito, i'll be at the next Canadian meeting. I would consider NYC, or Boston, also.

Artashes, we will have to write a manual - WHT-GetTogethers101 for the rest of the membership. It seems that the 2 meetings we had were not enough to show them how it's done. ;)

While I am also from Canada, I'd have to agree, that New York City is an AWESOME place, dispite the (seemingly) long drive from the Toronto area and the high hotel prices.

It's been a few years since I've been up montreal way, but it would also be an excellent choice...

You won't find better seafood anywhere else.

The first thing that hit me (food wise)when I moved to "Canada's Ocean Playground" was the awesome seafood. Dibgy Scallops are world renowned, and The south east coast is know for it's lobsters :D

Halifax! We can do it there, as well, but everyone will have a long drive. Otherwise they'll have to take a plane.

NEW YORK would be also a great place, but expensive. rusko can help us with organization over there. ;)
