Ok. I have a message board that I run for a group of my school friends which is located on my gaming website. Apparently, some things were said about a certin individual and now that kid has printed the pages out and is going down to the school office tomorrow to complain about the things that were said. Am I, as the owner of the site or anyone that posted anything liable for anything on there? Can they get in trouble? The kid was pretty pissed. I mean, I doubt that the school can do anything seeing how the message board is not on a school site nor does it mention anything regarding the school on the board.

An opinions would be appreciated.

I have already contacted someone at splc.org and I am not even going to try to contact the ALCU because they never got back to me the last time I asked for assistance.

Thanks,
Joe

no, you can't be liable for what others say on the board.

What about the people that actually said something? Can anyone do anything about it, let alone our school?

well, if a person is posting copyrighted material you can be, but i don't think you can get in trouble for others opinions.

It is not on school property so what can the school do except maybe tell their parents.

also, things like child porn would not be legal.

No, no copyrighted material or any type of porn was on there, lol

They pretty much called the kid a few names and that was it.

then you can't get in trouble for someone giving an opinion and the most the school can do is tell on the parents.

Well the parents are the ones that are doing everything trying to get us in trouble, they already know about it, so I guess nothing worse can happed
