View Full Version : script to move from Alabanza to Cpanel
Alareach 11-17-2001, 04:22 PM Hi,
I am working with a company to develop a script which will assist in moving an account from an Alabanza server to a Cpanel server. A brief summary of what it will do:
- create a new user, with the given limits
- login to the alabanza server,
- copy and install the html and cgi files
- copy and install the website raw logs and webalizer stats
- convert the sendmail formatted mailboxes into Exim mailboxes and copy the
mail.
- copy and install mysql databases
- copy and install ftp accounts
However some alabanza specific features may not be enabled simply because the software is not present in cpanel, such as
- servlets
- counters
- frontpage extensions may show some problems
- mailing lists
I am posting this to find out if anyone here would be interested in buying such software as well, and what price (realilistic) you would be willing to pay for this. I have seen it discussed many times, and looked for it myself, but since I work with a company who is experienced with both, decided to have them develop this software. We will test it on our servers and once we know it works, will resell it to others .
(Mods, I was a little confused about where to put this, and apologize in advance if I put it in the wrong forum) ;)
Thanks!
AH
BurstNET 11-17-2001, 04:48 PM BurstNET has this script already for many months which we allow all clients moving a server from Alabanza to BurstNET to use for free.

Chicken 11-18-2001, 01:51 AM Sean, that's great, but I don't see how it has anythign to do with the thread starter's question??? Unless I'm missing something, Alabanza to BurstNET isn't the only scenario, unless you are saying that this script is available for anyone moving from Alabanza to any cpanel server anywhere.
Ericwenlong 11-18-2001, 02:27 AM Good point Chicken.
Sean, not to flame you, but I don't see the relevance of your post here since you are referring to Alabanza to Burst. How about those which are not to Burst ? He is posting to see the feedback on the demand and price and you are posting saying you have that many months ago....bla...bla..bla.... which is totally irrelevant. Unless you are saying that people who get cpanel licenses from Burst will get to use the script free, or anyone interested can use your script for a nominal amount of fee , that would be acceptable.......but I don't see any of them there.
BurstNET 11-18-2001, 06:01 AM My point was we supply it for "free"..and it is not something we feel should be charged for...which was in direct response to his "what price (realilistic) you would be willing to pay for this" question...
We feel the price should be $0, since you are only helping the client move to your service more easily.

HostingDirect 11-18-2001, 08:24 AM I may have miss-read this post but my take is Alareach was looking to see if other hosting companies would be interested in buying his script once developed to offer it as they wish. I do not see where he was suggesting that anyone actually charge their customers for the service?
NetRemedy 11-18-2001, 08:46 AM Am trying to figure relevance of

to orginal post
It looks like Alareach is trying to develop a script so that they can resel to interested parties and was therefore looking for suggested pricing from companies that would need it for their own migrations from Alabanza to a CPANEL host.
it is not something we feel should be charged for
is probably true in your situation where you are a CPANEL™ & WEBHOSTMANAGER™ authorized Data Centre and want to offer it to new clients that were previously with Alabanza.
We feel the price should be $0
In your situation I would agree that it should be free for any new clients
We are however interested in original post and do not want it to get off topic .... thanks ...

It seems that Burst is offering that script free for external clients as well, so, Alareach, I am not sure if your script can sell high.
Ericwenlong,
I believe the post you mention is only talking about the Burst provided automated back-up script and not the Alabanza to Cpanel script. Also the post you mention still says cpanel would have to be bought through Burst for legal use which does not help out any non-Burst hosts so I think there could be a market for the new Alabanza to Cpanel script. Now the price is a different story :)
Actually it would be best if Cpanel could build this into their code as it would help get people moved from Alabanza while increasing the Cpanel customer base.
Ericwenlong 11-18-2001, 12:13 PM Thank you for pointing that out Curt. I must be a bit tired when I posted that. Somehow, I got mixed up with that script. You are right. :D
How good it would be if only Burst allows the script to be used by external clients too.......
Alareach 11-19-2001, 03:50 PM Hi All,
Sorry for not being here to watch the replies, but I was out of town for a day.
I hope I did not cause a misunderstanding and want to clarify my post and its intentions..
I have lots of Alabanza based clients and many want to move to my Cpanel servers. Rather than asking them to upload their files, set up mailboxes, etc. I wanted to offer a simple conversion to move them from one box/panel to the other. This was why I contacted someone who I knew could do it, and they will do it for a price. If I am going to pay the group I work with to develop such a script, they are going to allow me to sell it to others as well, which will help me re-coop some of the monies I spent on it.
I do agree that many of us (including myself) who have servers hosted elsewhere may also be interested in such a software. I am not a dedicated server host, and am not really out to make profit on this, but if I am going to pay for it, I may as well try to make some money to cover my cost of the script.
To be honest, I wasn't aware that such a script existed going by former posts on WHT and other forums, and would LOVE to have a free one, especially since 2 of my Cpanel servers are at BurstNET. If there is one available from Burst, I would like to know more, so I did e-mail Sean right away after I saw his first post.. asking about this script, but as of today/now I have no answer from him as of yet.
I want to just insert one of my email addresses so one can email me and ask questions for me to send to the developer, or if you wish to express interest, as I do not wish to cause an unnecessarily long thread.
Interested parties may email me at: wirelessstores@ureach.com

bobcares 12-01-2001, 03:43 PM Hi!
I wonder if Burst is actually giving out the convertor free to everybody.
Any feedback on this would be great Sean.
Have a great day :)
