hello.

through frustration, i finally have come to the point where i need to start my own website.

it will be a site focusing on a local area and i want to know a way i can register it so my home address isnt used for the credit card contact. it will kinda be a website forum like webhostingtalk is. i dont want people coming to my house at night or doing weird things. basicly it will be a local politics site and i dont know crazy people vandilizing my home or paying unexpected visits. i also dont want them to know where i live.

so what provider can i register with that will provide some type of way where the administration and registrant wont show my street address?

i have a p o box i could use, but my credit card address is not listed there.

am i paranoid or is there a way to not show my street address?

www.Godaddy.com offers something that might help you on this.... Anyone here that can explain abit more? Also politics can be a dogdy topic on the net so make sure you go with a host that won't have a problem with your site cause you might find it closed one day........

Use registerfly.com
1- domain registrartion = 9.99
2 - ID protection = 0.99

So your total cost = $10.98
They will hide your name address , email , phone ..etc

What about SecureWhois?

you should be able to change the billing details at any time with most registrars.

Would be careful about using whois protection services (especially from a companies like registerfly who don't exactly have a reputation for honesty) it means the registrar is listed as registrant in the whois.

Just use your PO Box.
The address for the whois doesn't have to be the same as your credit card billing address.

I've seen several DNs where registar contact info has been dummied in as a way of achieving anonimity. ie Domain Seller, 123 Address Rd, Somewhere, NY. Can there be any repurcussions for using this approach?

most have stipulations in thier TOS regarding false whois info.
i don't think icann approves of it either.

there's lots of private whois services out there.
So it isn't much of a problem.

Suggest using services from ENOM or GoDaddy (if you're based in US)
If you're outside US, hmm.. better use ENOM.
As goDaddy has lots of problems with customers outside US.

Whois Services from RegisterFly or NameCheap is not advisable.
As they have no insurance protection on the services, that's why they are going for so cheap.
If you happens to use their private whois protection services, and lost the domains. Gods know what will happens??
But overall, they're not bad registrar.

I think RegisterFly does insure it.
