View Full Version : fake microsoft website?
http://msn-int.com
I think this is a fake microsoft website. I tried what the name server is, they sell roller blades.
The way i got to this website was googling "msn messenger 6.2". I think maybe they have a trojan in the download of msn they offer on their website @ http://messenger.msn-int.com/Feature/whatsnew.aspx
very fishy!!!

The Dude 04-22-2004, 12:11 PM Hehehehe,
Almost all the links on that page DONT WORK!!!!!!!!!!
The Dude :D
PogiWeb 04-22-2004, 12:17 PM Somebody did a nonono
Patrick 04-22-2004, 01:22 PM Actually that URL is a legit Microsoft domain.
Dns resolved www.msn-int.com to 65.54.202.62
65.54.202.62 belongs to Microsoft.
peersignal 04-22-2004, 02:36 PM No, it belongs to Microsoft, as Pat said, the IPs are Microsoft's. WHOIS checks are not always the most accurate way of determining domain ownership.
Regards,
Waylon
AHS_Wrestler 04-22-2004, 04:35 PM I belive it stands for MSN International.
Reyox Stephen 04-22-2004, 05:27 PM MS probly owns just about every domain with MSN and microsoft in it. I mean hell it would cost what 1 million bucks Gates using that as TP :P.
ilyash 04-22-2004, 06:41 PM alot of broken links there lol
AdmiralSpock 04-22-2004, 06:52 PM If you actually looked at what you were clicking on on that page then you would see that it is not an actual web address -- it must be designed for their MSN explorer.
Jeremy Johnstone 04-22-2004, 07:04 PM I dunno about you all, but I surely wouldn't want to mess around clicking the links on that site in IE.
/me is glad he doesn't run a Windows OS for reason's just like this.

if you just look at the links you will see something very fishy is going on.
mainarea 04-22-2004, 07:23 PM Given the fact that the download link points to http://download.microsoft.com/, and the IP belongs to Microsoft, I'll say that this is legit.
OrgName: Microsoft Corp

Those links that you posted probably open content in MSN Explorer for MSN customers (I think non-MSN customers can get it too).

common guys i care to argue..
anyone here can make can do this..!!
1. register a domain related to microsoft.
2. put fake details in the domain registration
3. put links on the page to the real msn website
4. steal all the images from the original website (cloning)
then tell me why does the dns pointer point to a website which sells roller blades???

The URL belongs to Microsoft.
The IP of the hostname is part of Microsofts netblock.
What more would you like to hear?

eservicesu 04-22-2004, 08:32 PM still looks fishy but the IPs belong to MS, or perhaps someone managed to get a server in there hook it up to their network and rip msn's site off...well i dont think its going to happen lets just say that.

This is actually a legit site, however, should not be open to the outside world. It is an intranet site available to those on the Redmond and Palo Alto MSFT network.

macdonaldp 04-22-2004, 11:08 PM It is for sure a legit site.
The reason for the strange formatted links is for microsofts msn explorer web browser. [http://www.snapfiles.com/get/msnexplorer.html Download it and try it if you don't believe me. I remember when msn explorer first came out and I tried it, hated it but I do remember that there was weird formatted links and I do remember the msn-int.com website. There is also a passport-int.com website as well. And same with a hotmail-int.com.

Let's say I have it on good source. :)
It was housed in the WebTV Mountain View (Now owned by Microsoft) DC on ops.artemis.com and was used by the CS_Tools team that were developing the intranet. I hadn't seen the site in some time... I don't remember it ever being on a public IP, but I could be wrong.

Nifty. I learn something new every day.
I had thought it might have been moved to a different DC and someone assigned it an internal IP which had been externally mapped already, actually happens quite frequently.

They didnt manage to catch www.msnsucks.com though :)
It is a genuine site, somebody at MS left a url to a page on the domain in the source code of the messenger 6 beta that was leaked, that's how it got out.
They use it mostly now for testing new portals and pages, there's lots of msn testing domains, beta pages, even test chat servers around if you snoop hard enough. Some they closed off to the public since they were found, like moonport.com, they actually had a beta layout for a domain registration service at domains.moonport.com for a while. Others they just leave up for whatever reason, like hotmail-ppe.com (yep you can get a working @hotmail-ppe.com email address, though i'm not sure why'd you want one)
They have alot of sites they sort of franchise also, that at first glance don't seem legit like msnstuff.com, untill recently they sold MSN lollies :) sadly, they have now gone, but you can still get an msn mint tin (http://www.msnstuff.com/productDetail.asp?CategoryID=3&ProductID=38) to keep your mints in :cartman:
Here's a directory on a test site for the kids passport service that has loads of links to beta pages and other stuff on testing domains: https://next-kids.passporttest.net/SiteDirectory.srf?lc=1033

Most of the stuff on moonport is only available on RED1-6 or MSFT.
