Z28SS

Howdy!
Is it possible to totally avoid httpd.conf and add-on configs for the server and deal with .htaccess using mod_rewrite to catch incoming hits to subdomain.domain.tld? I mean, you could then have ONE stats program cover the entire domain easily, not need a zillion administrative accounts (one per sub), and still parse SSI just with .htaccess entries? Or will this not work?
I'm setting up a personal site with over 80 subdomains and I know enough about the Raq4i in my 12 days with one that the admin account hits the wall pretty quick and I want to avoid having admin accounts for 80 subs. I want one stats output to spell my traffic out for the domain and all subs. I could care less if I had subdomain email or even subdomain perl/php/mysql/other doo-dads. My content is 99% xhtml 1.1 (static). I already have the DNS set up on the subs but want to avoid creating virtual accounts like the plague. I'd rather let my neighbor drive my Z28SS... uhhh, well maybe not. Definitely not...
I was going to fuss with this this weekend. Perhaps one of you here with more battle scars than myself can spare me getting my nose/ear/head/a$$ shot off the first time I get the itch to see who's shooting.
Think this might fly?
