Just started my webhosting company. Got a Cobalt RAQ at rackshack $99.00. Very nice!! in 2 weeks i got 4 customers!! :)

Each of them has like 12 email accounts...and they use their emails several times a day (they are companies).

Just thinking:

1. What to do if Cobalt HD Crashes?? Cuz' hardware problem?? what to do? What to tell to my customers that CANT AFFORD 24 hours without email???

2. Backup methods for cobalt??

3. What do you do in this cases??

4. Suggestions? REcomendations? Your Experience?

sorry for my english...

Well, you can always have a backup server sitting by to mirror yours. If your main server goes down, the backup kicks in. I know that you probably can't afford that at this time... Does RaqShack offer any backup plans? Maybe you could get together with a few "smaller" companies (like mine :) ) to share a backup server...

I can't think of much else...

People keep talking about backup server, but I am not sure whether I understand it or whether they understand it ...

When your main server is down, you expect the backup server to start kicking in at that very time? Is that really so and going to happen? How about IP changes, dns propagation, files sync between the two servers (mysql, for example), etc? How do you setup a backup server that will sync all the files from the main server at any second (so the two servers are indetical) and then set it up such that it will be running as soon as the main server is down?

Cheers,

When I say "backup server", I mean a server that manages the backing up of data.
