Hello,

Well this is a rather odd request, but here it goes...

I'm going to setup the burstbackup script that is included with Cpanel as distributed by BurstNET. I would like to know the following: How should I set this up? Cron running at 2am every night? Do I have to edit anything in the script (for instance, edit the admin email field to make sure the notifications go to the correct person...). I am pretty sure the script will put the backup info into the correct folders on /backup , but I don't know if I should create these folders, or if it will do it for me.... etc...

I'd rather not "just run it and see what happens", because I am unsure as to how it will effect the system.

So.. you might ask me "Why don't you contact BurstNET about this?" Well... I already did, and apparently they do not provide support for it unless I'm in their NOC (Even though I am purchasing an external liscence from them). In fact, the only response I got from them is "Make sure we don't recieve any emails about your servers" ... But they wouldn't tell me how to do this either.

I am pretty shocked that they will not even give me any pointers on this. (I'm not asking them to debug anything... I just want a "it might mess everything up" or a "As long as you do this, you should be fine..."

I guess $99.95 per month gets you less and less these days....

Anyways... If someone that has used this script could give me a few pointers, it would be much appreciated.

Hrmm.. you should get some kind of support for 99 bucks a month, at least email support..

Ask them if they have any instructions for that cpanel backup..

good luck

BurstBackup is a private script written by BurstNET.
It is not part of the Cpanel software distribution.
It is not licensed for usage outside of the BurstNET NOC.

Well to run cron every night at two would have to be this entry.

0 2 * * * /path/to/the/script/to/be/executed.

Also there should be a backup.conf file which tells the script what to backup. It's simple to figure our how the entry works.

Well, in this post here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26300

You said this:

It is supplied only to internal servers, and external Cpanel licenses for BurstNET clients.
However, just wait a little bit, and a slightly better version will be built into NOCSoft, as well some other nifty related features.

Which, by the way, is THE reason that I got an external liscence from you guys. Now you're telling me that I can't use it?????

If you don't want me to use it, thats just fine, but Im a little annoyed that I was told that I would be able to use it with an external liscence.....

Actually, you posted this thread, the correct thread he said that was http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=127296&highlight=It+is+supplied+only+to+internal+servers#post127296 and you should be getting use of that script based on that post, yes.

I checked and we are indeed allowing now our external cpanel licensed clients to use the script. Contact us at sysadmin@burst.net, and we will assist you with implementation.

Now as in starting at the time of this post? or as in before August when you said it was included then? I'm guessing at the time of thsi post, because noone was nice enough to help in tech support. Basically I think their reply was "Make sure we don't recieve any emails about your servers" because they saw it as software not allowed on his server, and you would need to take action about it. (Please let me know if I am wrong on this, and what you really meant by that.)
