I want to host only one site in a Ra4i 256MB RAM. But this site is large, almost 1,000,000 pageviews/month. The site has discussion boards (forums). It's running PHP and mySQL but not ASP. I'm wondering if the Cobalt Raq4i with a 450MHz CPU can handle such a large site. Any experience?

33,000 page views a day, hmmm. Well, I don't have anything this big so I couldn't really tell you from experience, other than to say that you can't upgrade the processor if you had to, and the max ram would be 512MB which could be limiting. How heavy does the forum get hit, and what type of forum is it (meaning what is the exact script)?

The forum runs Ikonboard with mySQL. Chicken, could you give us statistics for WHT? How many pageviews/month does WHT have?

i don't think WHT is on a raq. there's a WHT stats page around here somewhere. i think it's on a dual PIII 7-something.


if you do take a raq, you're going to want to get 512mb RAM and tweak the patooties out of mysql, apache, php, and whatever else you can.

I have heard of people using more than one server for very big sites ... I don't know much about it but does anyone know if there is a way of sharing the burdon between 2 Raqs ? It might be cheeper than runing a big server ($198 per month isn't much for a site that size ...)

With a bit of tweaking you can actually get quite much out of an RaQ4.

I run a RaQ4 server that some months have served 20,000,000 hits/month (note that it's hits, and not pageviews...). So I think that it would be realistic to serve 1,000,000 pageviews/month.

You should probably consider upgrading the RAM to 512 meg.

1843677 - page views
110006 - visits
5054755 - files
11656751 - hits

Everything seems to be going fine for me. A lot of the traffic comes from a messageboard I wrote in PHP/MySQL.

Franki, as was said, WHT is on a Dual Intel Pentium III 750mhz - 512mb SDRAM - 18gb SCSI hard drive.

You might want to get a RaqXTR they are sweet as hell and will easily handle that amount of traffic.
We have sold 20 or some of them and not a single compaint.

They have a 733mhz proc..
