My ultimate goal is to get a .ly domain, 'cause my last name is Ly. But anyway, I was looking around for .ly registrars and it's so expensive and confusing, because some registrars will charge you $100 just for .ly, while others will charge $500. I think that includes the .com/net/org.ly, but I just want the .ly.
I'm looking at lydomains.com (http://www.lydomains.com/about_regs.asp) and they have their prices listed as $100 registration fee for .com/net/org.ly with $50 renewal. The .ly itself costs $500 to register and $50/year to renew.
Meanwhile, lyregistry.com (http://lyregistry.com/index.html) has their .ly priced at $100/year. But I don't think I want to use them... And here's the official registry (http://www.nic.ly/). That's all I've been able to find via Google.
Having your last name as a TLD is rare in itself...but I don't think it's worth it to pay $500 registration fee. I'm willing to fork over $100, maybe, but not $500. Register.com used to offer .ly registrations but they don't anymore, at least when I check their main page.
I guess the point of this post is to ask if anyone has any experience registering .ly domains :)
