This really is about web hosting.

One day, a scorpion came upon a frog at the edge of a stream. The scorpion asked the frog if he would carry the scorpion across the stream on his back. The frog replied "No, you're a scorpion, you'll sting me and kill me."

The scorpion told the frog that it wouldn't make sense to do so, that they would both die. Persuaded by the scorpion's logic, the frog acquiesced and they began the journey across the stream together.

They hadn't reached the mid point when the frog felt a sharp sting. Dying, he turned to the scorpion and asked why he had been stung as the scorpion would die now too.

The scorpion replied, "What do you expect, it's my nature."

Most any host can have an occasional technical problem, or be a bit short handed in support due to rapid growth. We may not be happy about it if we have suffered with these problems, but they are understandable.

However, cheating customers, lying to them, spamming them, tolerating spammers, shutting down sites for invalid reasons (including greed) and otherwise treating customers poorly, are things that speak of the nature of the business.

These are things that are not fixed with technical improvements and upgrades. There are things that can only be fixed by replacing the top people at a company as it is there that the attitude and philosophy of any company are set. This kind of replacement is rare.

In looking for a host, it is easy to focus on the technological aspects of a host. Frankly, without the right attitude, nothing else matters. Some of the worst hosts have great sites and look great on paper. They are terrific until you use them. Then the nightmares begin. Complain about the poor service and many will shut you down.

The next time someone asks "What about ***** (or AIT, or Communitech or any of the thousands of bumbling incompetents and apathetic scoundrels), I heard they had some problems a few months ago. What are they like now?" think back.

What was the nature of the problems? Was it the way they treated people? If so, has anything really changed? Probably not. They can't help being crooks, cheats, and liars. It's their nature!

You have only yourself to blame if you disregard their nature and you get stung.

haha,

I've read that before somewhere. Good analogy!

I agree totally. How a host treats it's customers is the most important factor in choosing a host, period!!

That was a good discussion to reference, Greg. People like Jim should just go ahead and get stung and not bother to ask for information they clearly do not want to hear. Henceforth, I may refer to them as stinger bait. You know they're going down and they have to experience it before their minds open to the truth.

A mind is like a parachute. It only works when fully open.

I wonder if Jim has gone "thud" yet.

Well, last I heard, I think he was actually considering other options.

Thank goodness for that.
