Well the xbox does look nice. I can see that it's a little expensive, but it does come with a Pentium III 733 MHz cpu, 6 GB harddrive and an NVidia graphics card though. So I think it's worth it.

Nintendo or Microsoft?

Hmm...

Even though MS is new at this, I'll have to go with MS... maybe it will crash a little in the beginning, but after about 10 years, they'll get their act straight and monopolize the gaming industry also.

I am content with my PS2 at the moment. However, for Christmas, I hope to get a GameCube, mainly for Super Smash Bros.: Melee and Rogue Squadron 2. Eventually, I'll have to get an X-Box, though, since they got Shenmue 2 for American release, but I could import...bleh.

for me gamecube is out!
1st reason, you can't play import or backed up games ;)

right now my choice is either playstation 2 or xbox?
what do you think will be better in about 2 months?

I was actually pretty disappointed in PS2. We borrowed it to try it out and it ended up getting more use as a DVD player. Midnight Club was a ton of fun, but after a PC it was still pretty chunky graphic wise. With XBox being based on PC tech it promises to be a killer machine. I won't be buying for a while but I'm leaning very heavily in MS's direction right now

one thing Greg were you playing PS2 games on the PS2 or reg old PS games ??
more modern games for PS2 are amazing when you view them
such as GT3 or others
the prob is teh companies have to decide to write them properly
sadly there will be junky looking graphics put out by all companies for all platforms ;(

Oh it was a PS2 game.. I was a bit ticked it wasn't available for my clunky little PSOne :) I do get your point though... when the Playstation first came out I'm sure no-one ever thought we'd see Final Fantasy IX. Time will tell I suppose, but I tend to think anything running nVidia is going to hard to beat.

I love my ps2. The first dvd player in the house, and I can play soul reaver 2 on it. Soul Reaver 2 was basically the reason I bought the ps2. I love beheading things. :) By far the bloodiest game I have ever played (what other game do you get to swim through a chapel filled with blood?)

There are downsides too though. Memory is expensive, the fan makes a bit of noise, and I'm really not comfortable turning it off with the switch on the back (for the love of god please tell me that's how you're supposed to turn it off).

Actually that threw us off for a while too... after that huge round thing on the original Playstation, that little blue lit one was a big change. Beyond that it's a wonderfully designed bit of plastic.

I hope I didn't fry it. I've been using the switch on the back the whole time. :| So after you turn it off with the button (so the light is red), do you switch it off in the back? lol... time to find the instructions. :D

I don't have too many complaints about Microsoft lately. They've been putting out blockbuster products (Does anyone rate Windows XP under windows 98 in stability?) and I think the XBox will be a good change for them. So, if I were to buy one or the other right now (which I'm not, by the way ;)), I'd go with the XBox.

Well it looks like Xbox is no. 1! I would buy it over all the other systems, because of its processor, speed, and sweet graphics. Gamecube is cool, it's just that Xbox's games will be more of a variety It think - dunno.

josephp> No I really think buying N64 is a bad idea! Because, well it's just plain old - even though some games are fun - you'll get board of it pretty fast, and you'll wish you bought a newer system! (just a suggestion)

Peace peeps,

I went to the local Target this morning not knowing that today was the release and there was line of people already waiting to buy the system the same with BestBuy. BestBuy had more systems available.

Man I wish I had the money cuz I would have bought it on the spot.
I tried out NFL Fever 2002, that game is HOT, CALIENTE. Graphics are AWESOME and gameplay is so realistic it ain't even funny.

By the way Target made Nearly $10,000 in less than a half hour on the system, games, and accesories.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

I think my PC is the best game system :) . Playing with other players across the world adds something awsome to a game.

I don't get the whole Xbox thing . . .

Most peoples ( or at least gamers ) PC's are a better spec than the Xbox - why not just play on the PC ?

Honu
11-15-2001, 04:39 PM

cause they are not dedicated gaming boxes so a lot of time the graphics are better controls are better and are not quite so intensive as some PC games so a bit easier to play
just a dif system ??
cant compare the two that easy
I like having both ;)

XBox sux against my baby.

Why buy an XBox when you can play the xbox games and all those game systmes in this poll on your computer where it is 3x faster than the xbox.

Personally I like my 1.6gb athlon more that xbox.

not trying to be a you know what ??
but do you really understand Polygon count and speed etc....
the xbox blows away any computer out there for specs for gaming ???
it is a dedicated machine to gaming meaning they write everythgin for just that !!
go read the specs of a XBOX and then read the real specs of your sys you will drop your jaw.
just becuase the thing has a 750 does nto mean a 1.5 ghz will beat it ;)

agreed ya need both to have a good life ;)

i think i might get an xbox sometime next year or just a ps2 to finally have a console of my own, but right now have only had the chance to play on my boss's playstation2... it's pretty cool, i bought a crap load of games the other day for it. :)

soul reaver 2 (i liked the first one better.. this one i beat it in like 12 hours and it was just disappointing because i wanted to play it longer. great effects and nice story line), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (excellent game, always fun to play), Grand Theft Auto III (just can't resist rolling over and crashing into everyone... things i sometimes wish i could do when driving in RL j/k), and the game i got yesterday - Metal Gear Solid 2 (way way too many cut scenes! at one point i would walk for about less than a minute and another scene would play... it got annoying. but i love the game anyway, still haven't beaten it.. but probably will by Saturday if i get some time to play).

i have a sort-a offtopic question to everyone else that has a ps2.. i noticed on the games that i just got that they are skipping and sometimes won't load.. and when i took a look at the discs they have rings on them (like burn rings or something).. think the playstation is defective? or just something that happens if you leave the game in for too long? *hopes she hasn't broken it from too much overplay.. afterall it isn't even mine

Need to have an nVidia Geforce3 to even compare the pc and Xbox graphically. The top notch Geforce3 costs the same amount as an xbox too ;) .

A cool thing I read, people found out how to put linux on the xbox and turned it into a good little server. 300 bucks for a 733 mhz 6 gb hd, 128 mb of ram ain't bad!
