Can anybody lend me a hand with this? I'm a bit confused on some of the stuff (What's a NIC handle?) and would appreciate some help. :)

When registering name servers with Network Solutions they will normally assign a NIC handle to you. If you go to http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois and do a look up on my name server "ns.hdllc.net" then select name server and go you will get some results. You will note the information next to the coordinators name which is (CC18339) , that is my assigned NIC handle and (NSS6184-HST) is my name servers handle that was automatically assigned when I created the name server.

Does that help clear anything up?

More questions :)

1) Do I need to register my nameservers with my current domain registrar or with NS?
2) Does it matter who the domain registrar is?

You have to register the nameservers with your current registrar. You really dont have to even look at NetSol but you can call them and ask them to mirror the nameservers if you would like.

Good luck as well changing the IP address for a nameserver. I recently transferred my secondary nameserver to a seperate company's server in a physically different location (100% uptime so far) and Network Solutions still hasn't changed it--Dotster is pointing the finger at Network Solutions and Network SOlutions is pointing the finger at Dotster. The end result: It's ALWAYS Network Solutions' fault. :)
