hi all, i've been trying to find a particular control panel and i don't know what the software is called.

i've only seen it on 2 of my accounts so far, older ones i had with below10hosting.com from some time last year. all the new accounts i've set up with them and other companies don't seem to use this particular control panel anymore.

it is pretty similar to cpanel in most ways but the standard skin looks different. the biggest practical difference is that it allows you to bounce all email that isn't addressed to a specific existing email account, which cpanel doesn't seem to allow. (and i really need this feature!)

i have been looking for this control panel for ages but i can't seem to find anyone using it anymore. below10host doesn't have a picture of it but this one here is more or less what i'm talking about : http://www.apollohosting.com/host/cp.shtml

can any kind soul identify the name of this cp software for me? i'm not a hosting company, i just want to know the name of the software so i can ask companies whether they have it when i'm doing my "before i sign up" research :)

many thanks in advance,
ryu :)

This appears to be a Alabanza based control panel with custom icons.

Yeah, the IP address is owned by:

Global Crossing (NET-GBLX-6) GBLX-6 208.48.0.0 - 208.51.255.255
Alabanza primary (NETBLK-GBX-REQ000000013142) GBX-REQ000000013142
208.49.89.0 - 208.49.89.255

And the IP of that server/router is 208.49.89.17

So yes, its a Alabanza control panel.

EDIT: only hosts that have servers at alabanza offer this control panel, so you will need to ask the host if they use ALABANZA for their dedicated servers.

thanks for the info guys!

then my next question is,

does anyone know of any other control panel, not necessarily Alabanza's, that offers the same feature? (ie. gives the website owner the ability to reject all email that is not addressed to an existing account) If so, what control panel would that be?

Thanks once again for your help! :stickout

Why are you trying to bounce the emails, can't you just let them go to a catch all account? It seems that with Cpanel there is some way to accomplish what you are trying to do. An example would be helpful, maybe we could come up with some ideas :)

it's because i really hate spam :) i have a lot of websites under different domain names, and it seems like whenever one of them gets a bit too well-known, some idiot will show up and start using the domain name to sign up for stuff online, with fake email accounts like "kfjhgk@mydomain.com" (where mydomain.com is the domain name belonging to me).

i don't know who is doing it, but s/he keeps making up new addresses like these, based off my domains, to sign up for accounts with places like mp3.com, i guess so he can register to download free stuff, and i end up getting the company's advertisements!

it's really annoying to find my inbox stuffed with all this spam and even more infuriating that the person is using MY domains to do it! (and i'm not even going to go into possible problems like someone impersonating me online with fake email accounts from my domains and getting me into legal problems!)

this is not the usual run-of-the-mill untargeted random spam (which I also already get a boatload of), but someone or someones who is/are purposely using known domains, so that they know their signups will not bounce.

that's why i want to stop this - i don't like the thought of jerks getting away with this sort of thing!

ok, will stop ranting now before steam starts coming out of my ears :) sorry for grumbling.. you did ask! :)

soooo.... can you think of a way to stop it? :)

Cpanel allows you to do that. As long as the mailserver is exim (I believe they all are, but I'm not entirely sure how they have their system of things going). All you'd put as the default address is :fail: Then anything sent to a non-existant address gets sent back. Wow... remembering that little thing has proven useful the last couple of days. :D

I doubt it really affects spammers though. Most of them probably have mail chewing software so it gets rid of all those messages.

does this one work with a raq?

thanks for the tip, justin!

is that ":fail:" exactly as you typed it, with the colon on either side?

the default only seems to change for the main domain, and not for any subdomains that are already there though. the panel doesn't seem to let me change the default address for any of the subdomains, they're all stuck pointing to the main owner account. is that normal?
