I am running a server with WHM/Cpanel/Redhat7.1

Every now and then, a few clients report to me that there is problem with their email account. Basically webmail is working perfectly fine. But when they try to access through their email reader such as "Outlook Express". They receive following message.

"The host 'mail.client.com' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'username@client.com',
Server: 'mail.client.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D"

Anyone know whats the root problem and how to fix it? Most of the time I just ask client to remove the email settings and re-creat those email account again.

looks like it might be a DNS issue. do a `nslookup mail.client.com` and see if it resolves.

HI!
Restart Exim and the name server.
This could solve the problem.
Have a great day :)

Actually exim has nothing to do with the pop server. It is called cppop. :-)

It's actually a Outlook Express problem. I have had this happen. Tell you clients to close down Outlook Express and wait 15 minutes and try again. It's not your fault, don't worry.

Usually an intermittent problem like that is related to a network issue between the users computer/ISP and wherever your server is located. Especially if the mail service still seems to be reponding properly when accessed from webmail.

It's a internet problem I think between your PC and your ISP. Sometimes when you go to send or receive email even if your connection is working fine it still doesn't work. 9 times out of 10 it will end up working after a bit unless it's one thing. That is if they have a block setup like Sprint does. Sprint has their servers setup so that you can't send email through unless it's using their email server.
