Fremont Servers 11-14-2001, 02:13 AM I believe everyone wants to jump one step up to the top. cactus 11-14-2001, 03:08 AM I believe everyone wants to jump one step up to the top. I do agree on that...but it depends on one's needs and planning. Thats why you have retailers/dealer shops selling for sole distributors/manufacturers products. They have different planning and goals so it's basically similar in web hosting. Some make their money selling programs, computers, servers(leasing/colo), webspace/resell plans, etc. etc. I believe, whatever you do or what profession/business you are doing or working, alway give your best and the chances of failing is minimised. choon 11-14-2001, 06:14 AM Originally posted by Asia I believe everyone wants to jump one step up to the top. Yes to a certain extend ;) For me, if I have that required knowledge on managing a server. One thing good about being a reseller is to fully focus on customers support and billing issues. Well, no perfect things that you would find... such as your hosting service fully depends on the reliability of your host etc. Yes, I would like to jump from reseller to real hosting but there are so many things need to know in order to make that *jump* for my case... such as do I have that amount of money, time, customers and knowledge  Once you know that you are ready for real hosting... your responsibilities will increase greatly since you are on your own. My vote is *Maybe in the future* ;) Just my personal thoughts :D Cheers! Regards, Choon ShellBounder 11-14-2001, 09:43 AM I've done it. It's not easy, I will admit. First, you tend to set everything up differently and stay scatterbrained about the structure because you've had so much ease on the reselling department. That luxury completely disappears here. And expect customer calls late at night or early in the morning. If your server goes out, it's no longer the provider's problem, it is yours and solely yours. Buying/leasing a server for Webhosting is an exciting endeavour, but it has many responsibilities that many people don't see until it's too late. Be mindful of this as well: You very well may slip into debt getting your server started up. It's very expensive to do. I can only hope you have enough clients already (say, 150-200) to support your server. Chicken 11-14-2001, 11:09 AM Originally posted by netsolutions Do you want to go from Reseller to host? Netsolutions, I'm sorry but for a couple of reasons I'm closing this thread. I don't have time to explain now, but if you can't understand why, contact me (email button below). |
