Can someone please explain to me what I am going to be missing out on if I get an RAQ 3 and not an RAQ 4

basically, the processory speed ... you will be getting AMD K6/300 instead of AMD K6/450 .... I think both can support up to 512MB of memory ... Anyway, if you have to choose between the two raqs, choose the Raq4 one...

cheers,

raq4i's come with a k6-3 450.

the RAQ3's i believe come with only a K6-2 300. but eh, not that the difference between a k6-3 and a k6-2 are anything special in regards to serving files(or is there?).

They both use old processors, are there any signs or news for a RAQ5 ? :)

i'm pretty sure the XTR or whatever it's called is the only hope.

I have found that the R3 and R4 for the most part perform pretty close to the same until you get it highly loaded with customers, RAM is the key.

Keep in mind you can load the 4i OS (6.0) on the 3 or 3i gaining your bandwidth control, PHP and ASP support to name a few.

You'll usually get a better software package with the raq4s. ie: the hosting provider I last worked for included php, asp, ssh, and some other options with the raq4s. Also I believe the raq4s have 2 nics... and some of the customers were switching to the 4s because the fp installation allowed for 'fp userwebs' a little easier.

Call your provider (if you're getting hosted), usually they have more software on the 4s.

Also, the difs the others have pointed out here.

There might actually be a chart on cobalt.com that shows the differences. I would think they would have one comparing their products..

As was said already, 300 vs 450 processor.
Chilisoft ASP standard on RaQ4 (is, or at least was, $600ish addl. for RaQ3)
RaQ4r have dual drives set up for RAID.
RaQ4 has better domain aliasing abilities (easier to do)

Errrrr... that's about it I suppose, they are pretty similar, though I like the 4 better (somewhat obvious, but...)
