I am about to make a decision on changing a server from one current one which is Verio in the US , to another server in Singapore.

Here are the two address to compare the speed:

1. insidecg.com - US
2. 202.157.164.6 -Singapore

Now when I tested them both on qwkmon.com I received these results:

1. insidecg.com -
258.51 milliseconds (0.25851 seconds) for the host to respond to an HTTP (web) request.

2. 202.157.164.6 -
took 462.54 milliseconds (0.46254 seconds) for the host to respond to an HTTP (web) request.

The reason I want to switch is because the modules I require aren't installed on the current server. What I want to know from you is it really worth it of moving the website to a TWICE as slow connection. Is it really that noticeble?

Let me know what you think.

What modules do you need? Perhaps another service provider offers them.

I would not suggest moving to a provider that has ping times twice as long as you currently have.

It's the same provider it's just theire servers are colocated in a different country. I am not looking for another provider this one is the best.

Latency isn't speed. A server with a latency of 500ms could very well be faster than a server with a latency of 30ms.

However, the international link between the US and Malaysia would be very slow, probably. Are you in Malaysia yourself? If so, it might be worth the tradeoff, but it's your call.

No I am in North America. I know that doesn't make the server faster, but isn't the connection speed mesured in latency.

That's what I am asking about the connection speed.

If that's one and the same provider, why don't you just ask them to install required modules? If that's perl, it will take minutes to get it done, if php - shouldn't do much trouble either.

Yes I did. Thanks for the help anyway. That wasn't the case, just wanted to make their life a little easier.
