View Full Version : Easter + Mel Gibson = ...
Artashes 04-13-2004, 01:42 AM The Passion of the Christ enters the Top 10 all-time box office chart.
Associated Press:
Many Christians made "The Passion of the Christ" a part of their Easter weekend, lifting the crucifixion saga back to the top box-office spot with $17.1 million.

With global release, I say this movie will easily enter the Top 5 or maybe even Top 3 positions.
Aussie Bob 04-13-2004, 02:01 AM Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but I saw the making of it, and they put an incredible amount of work into it. I marvel at what goes into making these films. Incredible stuff indeed.
Some local knockers in the media here, were claiming that Easter Church numbers would be down, while folks flocked to see the movie, rather than attending church. Turned out they were wrong :cartman: as numbers in Aussie for Easter Church attendance were at record levels, "in these troubled times . . . "
Amish_Geek 04-13-2004, 02:23 AM Before this weekend, the Passion was sitting at ~$310M total revenues, while Return of the King was at ~$375M. RTOK came out in December, and surpassed Titanic in box office sales (I'm pretty sure it surpassed Titanic), and The Passion came out much more recently, and will soon surpass ROTK.
Zutroy 04-13-2004, 02:32 AM ROTK is currently #6 all-time. Titanic took in over 200 million more (not that I like Titanic or anything...yuck).

websterworld 04-13-2004, 05:08 AM Guys keep in mind that lord of the rings, all three movies are actually on that list. and while they each came out a year apart, they were shoot during the same time.
so actually the lord of the rings movies, if you consider them as one movie, made over one billion. titanic made 600million...
LORD is NO.1 yappie... :stickout:
Zutroy 04-13-2004, 05:12 AM What I find most impressive is that you'll notice that all 5 Star Wars movies are in the top 20, for a total of over 1.8 billion dollars :)
2Grumpy 04-13-2004, 06:50 PM Wow the first movie on that list I haven't seen is #34 My Big Fat Greek Wedding, though I do have it, just ain't watched it yet. Also haven't seen Castaway, Ghost, Mission Impossible 2, Pearl Harbor, Toy Story, and several from the bottom 50.
Artashes 04-13-2004, 07:51 PM Gary, wow, you watch a lot of movies. Although with a home theater like yours who can resist not to? ;)
Zutroy 04-13-2004, 08:03 PM Interesting ... I've seen 80 of the top 100 movies.
Pixabit 04-13-2004, 08:10 PM The passion was an awesome movie, and good to be seen around easter :)
i refuse to see the movie, because i don't believe faith should be inspired based on the way jesus died, but upon his teachings.
I've also heard the movie has an anti-semetic undertone, and i don't feel like supporting something that sends that message out to the public.
Finding Nemo is the best of the top 10.
I have a 17 month old son who will bite your ankles if you disagree.

Haven't noticed anything anti-semitic in it.

So dont let your faith be inspired upon it? It is your choice alone :) Also, this "anti-semetism" can be looked upon easily be either side. It is very controversial. I think you should see it and decide on your own :)
Personally- I did not think it was anti-semetic, and Mel Brooks said he had no intention of that what so ever.
Artashes 04-13-2004, 09:55 PM Pixabit, you probably mean Mel Gibson...
Zutroy 04-13-2004, 10:01 PM I'd like to see Mel Brooks spoof it :)
Pixabit 04-13-2004, 10:40 PM artashes, what was I thinking, thank you for correcting me
isnt life of Brian from Mel Brooks?
Zutroy 04-13-2004, 10:42 PM No, Life of Brian is Monty Python.

gilbert 04-14-2004, 08:06 PM the movies a good one to go and see, if your affraid of what people will tell you about the movie and blah blah blah just GO and see it alone and dont tell anyone who would tell you how to run your life
ExtremeIS 04-14-2004, 08:13 PM My 80 year old Grandmother went and saw the film, she is a very religious christian woman and I never would have though she'd go to a movie much less this one. I asked her what she thought of it and surprisingly (to me) she wasn't surprised at the bloodiness of the scenes, it was as if she knew that's what it
was like or rather that's what she envisioned.
