You are comparing a single 300-500mhz to a dual 866mhz?

Demigod, this poll is pointless because you are comparing a server with two processors. If someone is offering you two processors in a tiny box to trade with a Cobalt RaQ (they do make more than one model by the way), then I guess I could see the point, but otherwise, you are asking what is better an apple or an orange?

perhaps this helps you
http://www.transmeta.com/technology/benchmarks/server_bench.html

but I am sure, that the transmeta box is much slower, that the benchmark is showing, but I think you can compare the other systems pretty well

Cobalts are good if you know nothing about servers but performance wise, it would be comparing a sloth to a cheetah. Cobalts are way over priced in the first place and are way behind in technology.

LMAO @ raq 3i 300Mhz amd cpus with eide harddrives. They have improved with the Raq4i but not by much.

I think it was a big mistake for SunMirco to buy Cobalt. I think they were bought for like 60 bucks a share. I agree the box looks nice though.

Hm ... what do you mean? Cobalt Raq4 sells for more than $2-3000 ... I can build a very powerful server (dual proc, SCSI, etc) at this price ... or even buy it, if I want too ...

Price/Performance-wise, cobalt is one of the worst ...

RaQs are really not overpriced when you look at the hardware *and* software. I can go to 4sure.com and pick up a RaQ4i with 20 GB HD and 256 MB RAM for $1,378. I can go to QSOL and get a 600 MHz PIII with a 20 GB HD and 256 MB RAM for around $900... but no software. Add a Plesk unlimited license for $799, and the total comes to $1,699. The RaQ also includes Chili!Soft, a $500 piece of software (which doesn't mean much if you don't use it, but if you do--there it is).

Chris C,

Good point. Never thought about it that way.
