Only dial-up is available here, currently..

Anyway, today the internet would harldy go at all, so I just sat around for around 4 hours and then decided to call EarthLink. I actually got somebody within seconds and they knew the fix to my problem.

I was dialing into a phone number that had like 3-5% capacity that they were getting rid of, glad I called.. :) It was also not a 56k line - and now I notice a huge speed difference.

How is everybody else's experiences with EarthLink?

you know back in the day millions of years ago (well not really but atleast 3 years ago or 2) i was on dial up, using a 33.6 modem

and i used the regular access #'s, but, on the site they had the ISDN access numbers

so one day i decided to use the isdn access #, and let me tell ya, it was fast as hell. i started using it all the time

then my ISP got pissed and threatend to disconnect me if i didnt start using the regular number, lol..

well thats the end of my story

I had earthlink for traveling, and god forbid you call support every time i tried to call they had to transfer me between god know how many places theni would get put on hold for at least 30 minutes, and 2x the phone system hung up on me after about 15 minutes of holding. So needless to sayi dont use them anymore. But of course canceling my service prooved to be even more difficult, so i finally gave up and hence my credit card is charged on a monthly basis, and i havent used their service in years.

Before they were bought out they were one of the best for what its worth.

i might work for earthllink i sometimes forget

i find when i forget i stay outa trouble

if you can get any other isp besided earthlink get that

one thing i will say about users who currently have earthlink now that use pop emails from there domailns. you can kiss that goobye
they are slowly blocking there servers for pop and smtp traffic that is not earthlink.

they are raising dial up prices again from 22.95 to 24.95
and from what i hear there tech support is not even earthlink it is a contracted telemarketing company in omaha. nebraska

^^^^
just a few things to look forward to in the next couple months to come

I had Earthlink dialup and I was so happy when I went to another ISP. The customer support was poor. Very poor. One time I called them up because their modem was not answering the phone. They told me to reinstall Windows because my settings were incorrect!

The quality of the dialup depends upon which dialup wholesaler you have in your area. For a while, PSINet provided the Earthlink dial up numbers in my area. That was not good. After many calls with Earthlink support, they finally gave me a list of 5 other local numbers. Fortunately, one of them was good.

Then there is the port 25 blocking and the flaky news servers.

I couldn't wait to get away from Earthlink.

When searching for an ISP for my buddy here in Morena Valley (eeew, I know), I ran across this place $10/mo.

Can anyone recomend an isp to replace earthlink for $20 per month or less? The only requirements are unlimited time, no blocked ports, and at least one email address.

Thank you!

(Oh yeah, no AOL, AT&T, or RCN either.)

I've got Earthlink/Sprint DSl and I've been pleased. I had one issue a few weeks ago that was traced to bad hardware on their end. They replaced the faulty equipment the next day and I was back up to speed.
Calls to support were a breeze, too.

The line connection is great, the customer service is HORRIBLE! I have waited on hold for 3o minutes at a time just to get a simple answer for my account.
