My computer is about 7 months old, I am running win xp pro... on a 1028mb ram, 2.8ghz processor, 125 gb hd.... It has been great so far.... but a month ago it started freezing for no reason... i noticed in the processes, a file called cidaemon.exe ( I dont remember the name exactly) would grow in size significantly whenever my computer did freeze. Also there would be multiple svchost.exe's that would jump in size as well...
I have ran Mcafee virus scan multiple times, done disk defrag... I cant seem to find the problem. I am just frustrated because it is a great machine and I am sick of working out of safe mode....
Anyone have advice?
Rob

It is actually a little better than a month ago.. it is still somewhat laggy though, with random feezing that lasts a few seconds, then back to normal...

Rob I think you have a common problem.
try this:
1. download/install/run - spybot search and destroy, adaware.
2. try to cut down on the number of process running in the BG.
2b. see what programs run at startup and disable the once you dont really need.
worse comes to worse, backup and do a re-install of XP.
usually its less then 7 months for me between windows reinstalls.
to speed up computer:
disable indexing on your hard-drives.
also try RegSeeker, handy little program, its free:

Hope I helped somewhat, good luck.
Best,
Eugene.

Eugene, thanks... hopefully this will help out
I had been downloading alot with bittorrent which resulted in ALOT of harddisk space used up, maybe that was the reason. I am not sure...
Thanks

Rob that may very well be it.
Windows indexes all of your files to allow for "faster" searching...
Be sure to delete large files that you dont need anymore. (dump them to a CD if you must)
While your at it you might want to lower the amount of diskspace ( or turn off system restore on all partitions except the one where windows is installed) system restore uses.
My computer >> properties >> system restore >> pick a HD >> settings ;)
