Hi there. We are starting to develop some billing software for our own use, but with the secondary purpose of selling it at the end of development. I would be very interested to hear what kind of features people are wanting for the sofware and who they would like it to connect to (ie Authorize.net). The following is what we are trying to put together:

1. a system to maintain client records, credit card information etc (encrypted). We are thinking of this as a windows application, but would consider creating it in PHP if there was enough demand
2. To process invoices at their due date - we use Authorize.net so we will link to them for credit card processing
3. Automatically generate invoices - either as email or as PDF (or printed if there is enough requirement for this). Automatically send email or PDF invoices out to clients
4. Automatically notice when credit cards are due for renewal and notify the client to update their information
5. Import/Export CSV files
6. A few other basic features.

The following is what I would like to know:

1. What other features would you want in this software?
2. Would you be interested in participating in beta trials when available (1.5 months we think)
3. What charging method would you like for this software (1-off payment or monthly fee for usage)
4. How much would you be prepared to pay for it. We are thinking of between $250 and $350 one-off fee

Any other thoughts comments etc appreciated

Kind regards

Mark

As far as I know this is missing from every form of billing software:

If I had a client with a 5GB transfer account, and he dedicided he would like to change to a 6GB transfer account, I'd like to be able to change that particular persons billing options, (maybe set up the software to require their authorization or something though) rather than set up a new system and have them re-subscribe.

In addition to what is stated above, I think that the single most forgotten feature in billing software, especially hosting related is the ability to integrate with a domain registrar. This simplifies the hosts work in setting up an account.
