Hello,
I was considering building my own servers and selling them to others either ebay or right here on the forum. However, I was just wondering, are the web hosting companies on here likely to buy a product from a small company for a cheaper prices or more likely to purchase from dell, ibm, or compaq? Or do they generally build their own?

Would you ever consider purchasing a server build by someone other then one of the major manufacturers' ? If it included warranties, etc..?

It depends on the reputation of the maker, and the prices, and parts included... I have never bought a premade server, I can always make one cheaper than manufactures. And there really is nothing like doing it yourself...

I wouldn't generally buy from the major manufacturers directly...
I can always find ways to get things done cheaper. If you find the right channels, you can even get the same products for a better price.
Also, are you talking about just the box, or the service of a datacenter too?

you can always get good prices, good warranty, + good quality from a stable, qualified VAR. look in your local area.
southeast US, email scantec@scantec.net for good prices on any parts you could need. they have great RAM prices(kingston, samsung, etc), CPUs, drives, MBs, etc. they also quote out pre-built servers & workstations with excellant warranties.
