Hello Guys..

Its seems that denic is not accepting my nameservers.. They are telling us the following:

> "denic>
> denic> ERROR: No delegation! The following errors were detected:
> denic> There is a SPOF - single point of failure - in NS-set!
> denic>
> denic> This happens if all NS-RR for a domain are in the same subnet.
> denic>"

Our nameservers are:

ns1.hostingbetter.com
216.194.78.3

ns2.hostingbetter.com
216.194.78.2

Anyone have any idea how can I prevent denic from this crap?

You should query the DENIC for the rules regarding delegations.

It seems, that they do not allow you to have both nameservers registred within the same subnet. I.e. this also means, that you cannot run both ns1 and ns2 off the same server.

Your host may have an IP lying around they could give you to set up ns3.domain.com and you might be able to get it to work, or use a secondary DNS service like mydomain.com for the second nameserver.

Would you like to explain or brief that little more?

Sure, while it seems denic isn't accepting your nameservers, most likely they aren't accepting the *second* namserver. If you use:

ns1.hostingbetter.com
216.194.78.3

And use a third party free DNS service such as http://www.mydomain.com (the DNS portion of the service), or http://www.zoneedit.com as the second DNS entry, you will be fine. You will have to set up the site on zoneedit to match how you've DNS'ed the site on the server.

Basically, don't think about it too much and either just set up the site on zoneedit as you normally would or use zoneedit as a slave to your primary nameserver (the easier way - see: http://zonedit.com/doc/faq.html#faq33 for more info on this and the site in general).

Chicken,

Would you like to tell what entries should I add in the domain zone. I have never done any stuff like that so I am getting confused.

As for now, my edit zone page for the domain looks like this:

Mail Servers:

Domain Server Rank
domain.de MailForward™ 0

WebForwards:

MailForwards: New Address Destination
*@domain.de info@my-email-address.com

WebPark™: Domain to park Park Page
domain.de
www.domain.de

Nameservers:
ns5.zoneedit.com 64.124.9.159
ns4.zoneedit.com 216.98.150.236

The first thing I'd do is set up the domain as you normally would, on the server. I believe you've done this already. Next, I'd follow step 33: http://zonedit.com/doc/faq.html#faq33 and use your first nameserver's IP address 216.194.78.3

When you go to register the domain (or modify the nameservers), you'd use:

ns1.hostingbetter.com 216.194.78.3
ns5.zoneedit.com 64.124.9.159

This is from what you posted, so I'd double check the nameservers and IPs for both to be sure they are correct.

Alternatively, you *could* just use zonedit for this as I noticed that their nameservers are on different subnets:
ns5.zoneedit.com 64.124.9.159
ns4.zoneedit.com 216.98.150.236
-but I'd try the above first.

Omair,

first of all, you're lucky you're using zonedit.com because mydomain.com won't do the job for a .de-Domain, their TTL-settings are, as most of the non-German DNS, too restrictive. But I do think, zonedit does work, haven't checked, though.

DeNic requires you to have two nameservers out of two different subnets with certain SOA settings- they even have this info on their homepage in English...

If you are still encountering problems with your registration, contact me, maybe I can help (or get you the Domain cheaper).

Ah, and I forgot to add this: you need to have a German Admin-C when registering a domain, owner can be foreign.

Hope I was of help, and sorry for my unstructured thinking, it's 3:45...

Omair, if you forward me your zonedit details I'll try to set it up for you tomorrow morning. Otherwise, if you don't want to set up zoneedit as a slave to yours (still what I'd recommend), then just add A records for:

domain.com > 216.194.78.30
www > 216.194.78.30

and that should get you going and you can add the other records after. Still will take a day or two but it should be enough to modify the domain (in a day or two).

Ok, we'll just set the whole thing up at zoneedit but you keep answering my emails without the information I need to to set it up. Is this the zone file you'd like exactly?

domain.de preference = 30, mail exchanger = www.domain.de
domain.de internet address = 216.194.78.30
domain.de nameserver = ns1.hostingbetter.com
domain.de nameserver = ns2.hostingbetter.com
domain.de
domain.de nameserver = ns1.hostingbetter.com
domain.de nameserver = ns2.hostingbetter.com
www.domain.de internet address = 216.194.78.3
