I would suggest shopping around Online for the cheapest (but quality) parts and build your own. Do the research and you will come out with a nice setup that will last a long time.

and you'll know what is inside it. An example is modems. A hell of a lot of store boughts these days come with a winmodem as standard. If you're running windows only it's not much of an issue, but if you decide to stick Linux on your comp, well, you're off to the shop to buy a new modem (I know I was). That and motherboards with chips soldered in, not enough open bays, too little room for memory expansion.. the list goes on.
