Does that sound too good to be true????http://www.*****.com/?zone=products/limited_time_chart
It's just too cheap for the offer, I think!

What's your take?

unlimited bandwidth? y, right.
$30 a month?
I do not understand why you feel this offer is too good to be true.

Simply because there is no such a thing as 'unlimited' bandwidth.

Well, first of all, NOTHING is unlimited, someone has to pay for it. Then they give you 2GB of space!!! For $30??????? Then the reviews I have seen all over the web about them!

OK, I'll join the crowd. I see nothing in that offer that you couldn't find at hundreds of other hosts (with better support/reliably reputations, for that matter) for roughly the same price. Except, of course, for the "unlimited bandwidth," but if you read *****'s Terms of Use under "Abuse of Unlimited Traffic" you'll find that it's not unlimited at all.

yeah i know it's not unlimited :)

if you do some research on *****
-in this forum (and others)
-in the usenet (dejanews.com)

you will see that they have one of the worst reputations as far as treating their customers

No matter what the offer is the resulting pain is not worth it.

yeah i was just reading about them @ webhosters.com
It doesn't look promising at all, and I've dealt with bad webhosting companies before ...
I m still trying to see what other hosts have similar offers, any suggestions?

Remember if what's attracting you to that offer is the 2 gigs of diskspace (as your prior message implies) that it isn't real! Again, look at the Terms of Use. Basically, their terms exclude you from using the site for file downloads, picture galleries, .mp3s, or really anything else that could let you approach 2 gigs of use. It's the same scam as unlimited bandwidth, the product they lead you to believe you're getting for $30 a month isn't actually available. You can not use the "allowed" 2 gigs without violating the terms of service.

So if you accept that bandwidth isn't unlimited and you can't really use 2 gigs, who has a similar offer? Anybody. Everybody.

well I have close to 400mb of html on one site
and then 3 more sites :) but looking @ all the reviews of ***** I dont think it's worth the try. That's why I was asking of other hosts that have similar offer. Other hosts that are more reputable and reliable...

that seems like a whole lot for just html pages. Most of my websites are in the 5meg range if that. What do your sites do?

If you offer message board hosting or guestbook hosting... You'll take up a lot of space

Am wondering if message board hosting or guest book hosting would necessarily be stored on the disk as formatted HTML space... or would they be online databases generating HTML pages on the fly ?

Just wish to clarify... of course, the larger the database or the more the content, the more the space consumption... and formatted HTML is a really inefficient way of storing information, am I correct?

I agree with you 100%

I think databases are the way to go

Anything else is very inefficient and hard to maintain

I have to admit that I fell for the 2gig deal. I have a several software sites with screenshots and it takes up quite a bit of space. The other thing that I was drawn to was that there was suppose to be a limit of no more than 256 hosts on a server. I thought it would be perfect.

However, my site has been down more than up. The support people we nice, but the problem I had was that I needed Level 2 support, and my sites would always go down after they left for the day. If it went down on a Friday, I was out of luck until Monday. The server I am on now is the best out of the for I have been on since I have been with them, but it has taken me months to get to this point, with a severe loss in traffic.

Ironically, the person who referred me to them has not had any down time. His site runs great. I guess it all boils down to what server they put you on.

I am in the process of changing my sites over to php. Not a small job when you have thousands of programs per site to sort through. :)
