Is this a good switch? I want to share a OC3 with many servers, BGP, and I will add more connections from other backbones. Is this switch overkill?

Extreme networks switches are around 3000 bucks to expensive. Is 3Com SuperStackII Switch 3300SM 1000Base-SX good or Cisco Systems Catalyst 1900 24-port 100B-TX/FX Switch Are there any forums that deal with networking and switching? Not many people here know much about switches and networking since this is a webhosting forum. Tetraboy 11-12-2001, 08:52 AM If you're paying 50-$90,000 a month for an OC3, you should spend a few extra grand on a decent extreme or cisco switch. This router switch is a Foundry NetIron 800 (OEM'ed) which consitantly beats out Cisco in performance/features test. You can read up more on the NetIron @ http://www.foundrynetworks.com/products/routers/netiron/index.html I would also buy the Foundry unit (instead of the HP) as you get faster OS releases and a little better support (from what I have been told) Hope that helps! <edit> I have also played with that switch and it's very nice. I forgot to add that :)</edit> phpwebhosting.com 11-22-2001, 03:59 AM The newer's hp switches are actually very nice products. No complaints here.
