View Full Version : Avoid Gandi.net like the plague

Has anyone used the registrar Gandi.net lately? I used them maybe half a year ago with no major problems, so when I needed to register another domain recently I used them again.

Unfortunately, they've rearranged their web interface so that now it is completely baffling. It is full of dead ends and error pages and pages wholly in French. Consequently, I am unable to modify the DNS settings to point to my web host; I thought I had done so successfully, but after 72 hours the modifications still have not appeared in Allwhois. When I go back to Gandi and try to add a new nameserver, I am informed that I am not authorized.

Worst of all, they aren't responding to my e-mail. I have the feeling that Gandi is running on autopilot and the crew has abandoned ship. Looks like I'll have to wait the 50 days until I can transfer the domain to another registrar.

I don't think that anyone there has abandoned ship. I am using Gandi for all of my domains and never experienced any troubles with them (something I cannot say about other registrars I've used before). However, their servers seem to be a bit slow lately.

I've been using Gandi.net for several months now, and they've been great.

Sure, the new interface is a little confusing, but their service is worth it.

The only regret I have is that lately I can't use my credit card to pay with them (there is a problem with using my credit card in someplaces in France).

Well, I used 'Change your DNS hosting from GANDI to another service' 4 days ago, which told me I had successfully modified the DNS, but it still has not propagated. When I go back to try again, I get this message:

Error
There is no domain name for which you are administrative contact currently using Gandi redirection services or Gandi custom DNS service.

And when I try to use 'Create or delete nameservers' I get this message:

You have no authorization for this domain

I sent them another e-mail last night to which they also have not replied. I really don't know what else to do.

I have used gandi for several domains for over a year now. For the most part, it is ok. There are a couple of problems -

1. Often times when I go to the payment form, I get a cgi error and then I have to click the back button and make a payment again (while registering/renewing a domain).
2. I thought I was billed twice because of this but don't know as at times I registered/renewed multiple domains.

Their new interface is mostly cosmetic. I just changed DNS for domains last week and one of them was done in a few hours the other one took a couple of days.

Hmm.. the e-mail support - I don't know about that.......

I finally got a reply to my e-mail, but all it said was, "Yes, there has been a failure. Can you retry now ?" Of course I have been trying repeatedly for several days now, so that's not much help.

Update:

Gandi finally deigned to reply to my e-mail today -- only a week late -- with a typically useless response, which I quote in its entirety below.

If you are using the DNS of Gandi and you want to change for other's, just go
to our homepage/'administration"/"Change your DNS hosting from GANDI to
another service" then change the DNS.

You can change rightnow the DNS when you are using those of Gandi and want to
change them for those of your hosting.
In order to change the other parameters, you will be able to do it in a very
few days.

Best regards,
Gandi.
