.ru is free. I dunno the exact site name, from where you can get it though. Sorry

There may be a few.

from my site about ccTLD domain names:
Possibly the first was .cc (Cocos Island), followed by .ws (Samoa), advertised as World Site, .hm (heard and McDonald islands), advertised as Home Site, and others. Moldavia/Moldava, holder of the .md domain, registers doctors at a hefty premium

Most other countries that allow out of country registrations use them as a source of income. The majority available through Net Sol are $199 each.

Several new TLDs are expected around January 2001,which will likely end any chance of ccTLDs establishing themselves as viable alternatives for the shortage in the big 3.

Yep, that was the exact address for .com.ru domains.

If you ask around the forums at freewebspace.net, Woofcat, one of the regs, has already set up a pre-formatted template to enable easy registration, so if you're interested, bug someone in there and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Trying to successfully register .com.ru domains can be tricky...

In fact, stuff that last suggestion. I just found the URL anyway - http://woofcat.com/russia.php

Use the script URL BC posted, there are all sorts of exact formatting issues (like your phone number has to be a certain way, etc.)

I have chicken.com.ru :)

I'm actually glad you read it that way since I have a couple of "ru" domains (which I thought were a good idea at the time, errrrr). Like rudotted.com (I figured the point would get lost on those outside the USA).

Also, side note, I've still had my finger on the trigger as well as far as getting a country code domain. It is tempting. Hmmmmm..... hmmmmm.... I wonder if I'm waiting until the ones I am considering are taken? (Thus making up my mind for me). To get 'em or not to get 'em, that is the question...

Have a look at http://www.nic.st

Not only are you helping a local economy, but there's still plenty of great domains left. I got vb.st a few weeks ago (yes, try and figure out what vb stands for ;))

Only $35US....

Niue(.nu) : http://www.nic.nu/

That's what usually first comes to mind Bogdan, but over here in Australia VB also stands for two things :

vB = vBulletin (LOL - does Jelsoft want it? :D)
VB = Victoria Bitter, Australia's favourite beer (and no, it ain't Fosters).

One of my mates tried to kill me when he found out I grabbed the domain, because he wanted it too ;)

And don't forget .nu
http://www.nunames.nu/
Cost $45 for two years and there are plenty of names available.

Hey guys I tried to go to http://woofcat.com/russia.php and create the three objects but got the following error:

Valid template for object 'blablab' (field 'mnt-adm') not found in this request - FATAL ERROR!
Valid template for object 'John doe' (field 'tech-c') not found in this request - FATAL ERROR!
There are FATAL ERRORS in request, object is not processed.

and

Invalid phone (or fax) number - FATAL ERROR!
The phone (or fax) number must look like +<country-code> <area-code> <number>

The directions don't explain much. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Your phone AND fax numbers MUST be in the format +<country code> <area code> <number>

For example,
Name: John A Doe
Telephone: +1 384 1234567
Fax: +1 384 7654321

By the way help, expect to have to do this a couple of times. The formatting has to be exact, and will fail if *one* thing is wrong. Just keep at it :)

.com.ar .net.ar .org.ar used to be free and open to everyone; however a recent notice on the nic.ar site seems to indicate that from Sep 2000 registration is now restricted to Argentine nationals only

then there's the ever-so-popular .us domains... :)

Really Chicken? How much are they worth? ;)

(imagine all the sub-levels one has to type out if you went down to street/suburb/town/...)

Bahhhh, I'd get one if they had Chicken, AK available, but alas they don't... (yes, there is a town called Chicken, anyone know of any others besides in AK?)
