3,000 - 5,000 MB per day to be safe.
I had a public 20 slot that was full a good deal of time pulling 8 GB per day.

oops srry there... i saw he wrote that but biaccident i stil lasked that question. the real question that i meant was what about a 12 player priv? how much does that use on average?

that'd depend on how many people have the password, whether its a clan, private site server, or whatever!

I never realised it was that much - lol Just did some maths and I guess you are correct lol.

If you know how much 1 user uses on average per second you can work it out, I think CS uses about 6K/s -

6K * 20Players = 120K per second
120K * 60 = 7200K per Minute
7200K * 60 = 432000K per Hour
432000K * 24 = 10368000K Per Day
10368000K / 1024 = 10125MB per Day
10125 / 1024 = 9.88GB Per Day.

Using the sums above you can adjust the equation accordingly - perhaps work it out over 12 Hours at peak and 6 At half and 6 idle?

I would hope that you arent signing up to a huge commit with internap to run game servers on and you dont even have a clue how much bandwidth they use.

Are you?

no, that's the point why i am asking you guys. i have an Internap representative's phone number for work and his cell. i am contact with him everyday. we were just talkign about what kind of megabit (MiB) connection i will need. so i was thinking about a 10 MiB or a 12 MiB but i don't wanna go for a 12 MiB if i don't need one because ther's a 1 grand difference between a 10 and a 12 MiB. i never had my own 40U rack thats why. but i know how to run the servers. all i need is the info on how many MiB does an average box uses that hosts game server (halflife mods; especially CS) thnx again! :D

I assume you are speaking of a minimum commit level?

They will probably deliver you a pair of 100mb cat5 uplinks.

You are geting a 40U rack for 1 server? Or are you planning on filling that rack with many physical servers, with which you will run many game servers?

If one server can push 7gb/day (use a lower estimate since the server will probably not be 100% full all the time, more like 75% full 90% of the time).

7*30= 210gb/mo roughly per CS server.

You *could* put 2, possibly 3 CS servers on 1 physical server, if you are running dual xeons, but for now, we'll stick with 1 CS server per physical server.

40U will hold 38 1U servers and 2 switches, but you wont want it that full. We'll say you put 18 2U servers in the rack.

18 * 210gb/mo = 3780gb/mo That means that with 18 CS servers, you will be maxing out your 10mb link, and without burst room on top, you will have major lag issues when all 18 servers are mostly full.

A 10mb link will do you just fine for the first few servers, as long as there is burst room, but as you get close to 10 full CS servers, you will want to get more than that 10mb connection.

so i was thinking maybe even a 12 or 14 MiB connection. anyways yea, i talked to the Internap representatives and they say the max amount of physical servers thaat wil fit into the 40U rack will be only 20 because of heat and power issues. so i think a 12 or 14 MiB connection will do fine, no?
