Hello,

I have recently installed cpanel on a server. This is the first time I've done it myself, (usually I have a distibutor do it). Everything installed correctly, and cpanel and WHM both run fine. However, when I restarted the server after the install, telnet and SSH no longer work. I've tried editing xinetd.d , however this does not work. I've got an appropriate entry in inetd.conf , but this also does not work.

I am completely stumped on how to get ssh / telnet up and running. I am thinking there may possibly be something that the distributors do during the install that I do not know about?

If someone could give me some insight into this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

mahinder

telnet need to be enabled in cpanel. may be you may ask distributor on how to do it. because you pay them $$$$ for this. ;)

Hmm... I found this file on a cpanel server that works:
/usr/local/cpanel/conf/general.conf

It has these sort of entries in it:

cgi=enabled
ftp=enabled
telnet=enabled
...

Etc.

Anyone know what this file does? I have to run down to the data center whenever I want to try to fix this, so I'd like to be able to know exactly what to do before I go down there.

Thanks!

Last chance to reply everyone! Otherwise, I'm going to wipe the hard drive clean!

Also... Should I go RH 7.1 or 6.2 ? The latest install of 7.1 that I did seemed very unstable. Kernel panics and segment faults everywhere.....
