TopRate 04-04-2004, 08:14 PM Whoa .... Didnt See that one Coming!
Gates will Get it back.
MStar 04-04-2004, 08:21 PM Maybe it's because you can't pirate IKEA furniture :emlaugh:
WirralNet Matt 04-04-2004, 08:23 PM I tend not to take too much notice of reports like that. A lot of them turn out to be false.
Ill wait for the BBC to announce it before I believe it.
Mind you, I would not mind 1% of either of their money hehehe :D
MStar 04-04-2004, 08:24 PM What brought me to realize it, it was just on CNN. Couldn't find a CNN.com link to it though.
Jasber 04-04-2004, 08:29 PM Wow, but even if your the worlds 1,000th richest person -- you got some money.

So is microsofts software, yet they both seem to be doing pretty good.
Acroplex 04-04-2004, 09:07 PM Now come on....IKEA is the epitome of cheap.
Windows is 98% of the world's OS.
freak 04-04-2004, 09:09 PM Not surprising...
After the amount of money Gates donated...

Thing is, people dont buy one chair, they buy five and a table to boot... maybe thats why... who knows.
Yeah, I REALLY feel sorry for Billy boy. Must suck to only have around $50 billion dollars now.. aww...

Acroplex 04-04-2004, 09:49 PM When I make my first billion I will let you know. My estimate is, September 3rd, 2197.
freak 04-04-2004, 10:07 PM By then, inflation would have made a burger a million apiece...
Kimmikat 04-04-2004, 10:13 PM IKEA makes me think of the flat boxes of shelves, stands, beds, etc that have only a picture guide for the assembly instructions.

Because it is. :D
I like IKEA furniture.
ilyash 04-04-2004, 11:26 PM IKEA furniture is sort of like Linux. You have to do everything yourself.
Other Furniture stores are like M$, everything comes assembled and pre-installed.
[Looks like *Nix is making its way ;)]
zerosix 04-05-2004, 01:02 AM I think this happened because of currency fluctuation
Ionsurge 04-05-2004, 01:19 AM I thought that the Walmart dudes were the richest... or was it that Sultan of somehwhere...
alvinks 04-05-2004, 03:25 AM Walmart would be by far the richest with a current bank account at 120 billion, but he died and his wealth is now divided evenly among his wife and children.
Sultan of Brunai was the richest in the early 90's but he has since dropped. He is still rich though.

It's from the ABC the BBC is the british version of that.
Trifolic 04-05-2004, 04:38 AM How do you live with that much money? I mean really, You could never really spend it all. I am sure you have all the personal effects and toys that you could ever want.. I'd start walking around giving people $1000 left and right everyday.. Share the wealth..
here is CNN. :)

Only thing is he won't be richest for too long, as he's already 77, must kinda suck being the world's richest so old, missed out on it earlier :stickout:
Tux-e-do 04-05-2004, 05:53 AM All that money, just one day with that much is all I ask.
The DC I would open :D
Subhadip 04-05-2004, 08:41 AM IKEA... What's that? Never heard of that company below. At least I don't remember.
Now you know why he's rich. The US$ slumps and the fact that he is a miser; travelling economy class etc.
ThePrimeHost 04-05-2004, 10:20 AM Not so fast Ikea fans...
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2004-04-05-billg-not-richest_x.htm
The founder of Swedish furniture giant Ikea may not be hurting for money, but the company he founded on Monday denied a report that he surpassed Bill Gates and Warren Buffett as the world's wealthiest man.
Subhadip 04-05-2004, 12:41 PM Well, this is the most definitiver article about the issue I have found (BBC): http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3600229.stm.
Apparently, there's a huge debate in the making.
WirralNet Matt 04-05-2004, 12:59 PM I read on my mobile phone before that he has only taken over Uncle Bill because they are taking into account Ikea's value.
If you take into account Microsoft's value, its absolutely tears Ikea apart.
His personal fortune only makes him 13th richest man in the world.
Of course the weak dollar has impacted Uncle Bills value, but not too seriously. :)
serialbeggar 04-05-2004, 12:59 PM I'd start walking around giving people $1000 left and right everyday.. Share the wealth.
You don't want to do that. You'll cause inflation.
akashik 04-05-2004, 01:25 PM Mr Gates's fortune is put at $US47 billion
That was the interesting part for me. Bill Gate's fortune's dropped close to 40 bill in the past few years. While I'm sure he's not hurting for cash, in his place, I'd be a little ticked off.

Wal-Mart is the world's largest retailer. Doesn't mean they aren't cheap.
lucaslim 04-07-2004, 02:19 PM omg..
klooki 04-07-2004, 02:30 PM Thing i like about that Ikea chap is that he still drives around in a old Volvo car....
He is also known to travel only economy where ever he goes!
Cirtex 04-07-2004, 02:32 PM Just heard about this, I wonder how Bill Gates feel about being the 2nd Richest Person in the whole world
If I had that kind of money, I'd buy up ALL the property in my town :)
Webdude 04-07-2004, 05:36 PM SVT2 says the US dollar's slide against other currencies is the main reason why Mr Kamprad has now overtaken Mr Gates.
stripeyteapot 04-07-2004, 06:11 PM Maybe if he gave to charity instead of buying vodka he wouldn't have "knocked" Bill off richest. I pretty much dissmiss reports like this.
benoitb 04-07-2004, 07:47 PM Lol, I see commentary like "he was the worlds richest, he is still rich though" of course they are, mulitbillionares and millionaires have a totally different definition of broke and bankruptcy, i guess my broke would be having lets say under 1k, and theirs would be under 80k+
webmultitude 04-07-2004, 08:13 PM Hey don't call IKEA crap!
This desk right here is from IKEA. :D

gilbert 06-09-2004, 03:10 PM fyi..

branding kinda looks like target throw away stuff
mantra 06-09-2004, 03:50 PM The difference between the two worth is $6billion US.
Did this IKEA guy all of sudden get an extra $6billion dollars from somewhere?
I mean where was this $6billion the last month or previous months?
curious???
Umbongo 06-09-2004, 04:05 PM If you bothered to read the thread youd see he isnt that rich at all. Swedish news reported he was by adding the assets of ikea onto his personal wealth and assuming the exchange rate suddenly gave him a huge extra boost. It didn't and he doesn't own all of Ikea. he has like $18 billion or so if that.
KIA-Joe 06-09-2004, 04:35 PM Off topic :
Go to http://www.ikea-usa.com/ and click on "New! IKEA Help Center" ... and ask it some funny questions ... it gives some pretty funny responses!...
You said:I want to see your insert body part here
I cannot as I am a computer program and I do not have a corporeal dimension. Please submit a question which is specifically about IKEA.
I had to look up corporeal ... lol ...

LMAO, this thread has been the funniest thing I've seen all day. You can't pirate Ikea furniture lol... :dgrin:
Maybe it's because once you sell the furniture there is no support after.... unlike MS where somethings breaks all the time.
Cheap crappy furniture to manufacture and resell at a high retail would bring better profits that the 10 billion lines of code in MS software :D
benoitb 06-09-2004, 10:45 PM why was this post dug up from the grave?

Their branding is done by the same agency that branded iMac and some late Phillips products ;)
They have really good prices and neet looking furniture. Trust me, they're branded up to their ears ;)
