I've configured mailscanner using the cpanel update scripts from their site. This seems to be working fine.

Does this also check outbound mail from the server ? If not, can it be made to check outbound ? Or is there an alternative mechanism ?

It does work for outbound. To test simply send an email from a hosted account to a yahoo account, you should see the header information for SA or ClamAV if you choose to use them.

Just as you said... Now why didn't I think of looking at an outbound mail header :-)
