View Full Version : Is it broken or not?

Guys, need hardware experts' opinions here.

This morning my monitor died on me. Or so it seems. It just "turned off" by itself and it looks like it tries to restart the screen, but the green button just turns green, then yellow and red and then all over again - green, yellow, red. Thus, it fails to turn on.

It happened a few times before, but I just turned it off myself and turned on again - it worked.

This time - is it broken or not? How do I know?

Thank you.

Do you have any other computers to test it on?

It could be the video card... or the monitor's fuse needs to be replaced.

No other PCs around, unfortunately.

Sounds to me like its fry'd, that it had on leg in the trash before, and now its completely burned out. I could be wrong...

and either way, its impossible to tell from here, I'm not psychic. :stickout:

Robs suggestions is good however, try it on another PC if it doesnt work there take it to a repair store, or get rid of it...

Take it back to the store? heheh.. Could have been a good idea, if it wasn't this old. 5 years.

Did you check if you kicked the power cord loose from the back of the monitor?

Check if the connection with the video card is good, sometimes it could be a little loose, and it wouldnt show anything.

I solved things like this before by just checking the power and video cable.

But... I have also tried that on other monitors and they were truly fried.

I hope it works out ok for you!

I had a similar problem...
Not only would my monitor turn off by itself but the computer also hanged. When I restarted the system, Windows said it was a problem with my graphics card.

God Bless you everyone. :D

I re-plugged the cable 5-6 times, let the monitor relax a bit. It worked.

But I AM thinking about a new system and was wondering if integrated double-monitor would be a good idea - is it twice more expensive than having a one monitor?

Best,

Broken.

More common than you think. If it's temp. where it seems to work again and stop, it's a good sign it's going to go out soon.

Monitors are quite inexpensive and definetly a good investment. I mean w/o one, you cannot do any thing ;)

EDIT: Just saw the second to last thread . . . lol

Nice choice. Samsung flats are the best, IMHO. Did you get the black one?

Naah. The silver one.

The pics can't do yet because I have no digital camera. I can, though, point you here:

Imagine my luck - it was on sale just for two days - 50 bucks off and I got one of the last one.

If anyone knows why - for some reason my screen is a bit blurry, no matter what resolution I'm on.

I did everything right - from installation of the driver to auto-settings. My guess is the video cart. Mine is: 3dfx Voodoo3.

Best,
