Hello Folks,

We are looking for the best AntiVirus software to protect our servers. It is Windows 2003 server with MS SQL database running IIS 6.0.

Which package gives most bang for the buck?

Please suggest.

Most viruses are aimed to get past norton and mcafee. Kaspersky and Nod32 detect modified viruses very well, that i have seen bypass most otehr antivirus software. NOD32 updates automatically, usually 1 time every 1-2 days. Unlike norton's 1-2 weeks. Nod32 is avalible as a trial. Kaspersky isnt anymore, but it works very we'll also.

You might want to look at Sophos Anti-Virus (www.sophos.com (http://www.sophos.com/)). I'm not sure how good the pricing is for just one server, but if you have a few servers then it should probably work out relatively well priced and it is good software, i.e. regular updates, 24x7x365 telephone support etc. They also have a mail scanner that can sit in front of your SMTP server for e-mail filtering which works quite well.

well it is depend on the machine spec.

1Ghz >= Use Norton (Norton take eat up too much usage on slower machine)
1Ghz <= Use mcafee or AVG

What do you guys vote for Panda software? So here is what we are evaluating:

[1] Panda Software
[2] McAfee
[3] Norton

Could you guys rate this so that we could go ahead and do the pruchase?

Thanks

As I stated... almost all viruses are made to bypass norton and mcafee because most people have it. If that is your list go with Panda.

I think you can't use the regular desktop version of Norton on Windows Server platforms. They have an enterprise edition as far as I know...

That is true, it will-not install. Will give you an error about that.

I 2nd F-Prot.

It is low cost, and they keep the signatures updated.

Can also be setup to update automatically, and works on Windows 2000 and 2003.

My vote's on AVG, hasn't failed to catch a single virus whilst I've been using it on one of my machines.
